True but I would need 3 arms. I figure the radio is better than experimental surgery.

It doesn't need to be diamond -- carbide is fine.

I got a complete set of carbide-tooth hole saws at a great deal off Craigslist!
I used them on the bottom of a stainless cabinet (electrical, nothing nautical) and it was an absolute LIFESAVER -- a bimetal hole saw "never would have cut it".

For that distance any FRS talkie will be fine.  Stick with a known brand name.  Look at hunting stores vs a marine store!

I prefer earbuds vs a headset and suggest that you buy where you/she can try/return to find what works best, lest it become simply an annoyance (and another marriage penalty.)

Some models (I believe Midland FRSs is one) you can buy a plug-in Bluetooth dongle that will pair to your favorite phone Bluetooth.
Another consideration is wind noise -- so again try/return -- because a boom mic w/ a foam windscreen may work better than a mic hanging on a wire from an earbud or clipped to a jacket lapel.

Hey Pete

I am a cheap, I mean frugal, sailor so IIWMB I would turn the D into a locking D.
With a Dremel, grind a vee into the side so that the thumb screw blade drops into a slot when it tightens past a certain point.  That's how my small shackles of that size "lock."
Otherwise, put a drop of blue Loctite on it.

The backstay adjuster did not wear the bow shackle pin.
The PO put it on the backstay because it was worn from the anchor.
Besides being ugly it'll last your lifetime on the backstay.  Otherwise, replace it with a new Wichard (or IIWMB a Wichard snap shackle w/ clevis instead of an eye.)

Looking for opinions or options for my wife and I for headsets, to help with anchoring.

I have to anchor by hand, as we don't have a gypsy, and have mixed rode and chain.

We've tried the usual hand signals etc, but I find I need both hands on the rode/chain and be sitting down in the locker.  Both of these things mean she can't see me, and I can't signal in rougher weather as I'm managing the rode/chain.

We've settled getting something to help us go hands free so I can direct her where to drive the boat and keep my hands safely on the rode/chain.

I've looked at the usual 'marriage savers' and they are pretty pricey, and I've looked at VOX enable walkies, wihch seem more reasonable in price.

Any thoughts on what equipment is a good buy?

I will cavet this, I'm not looking for better technique.  For us we've settled on some kind of comms.  Not that I don't appreciate all the usual wisdow on here as I do!

Hi All,
Trying to follow up on old topic of Deck scupper enlargement: https://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,9525.15.html
My plan is to drill them to about 1" since they are constantly plugged by spider webs and other garbage.
Just wondering if I should use "normal" hole saw or diamond tipped, as it seems to be solid 2" of glass it that area.

After 30 years (+,-) this strip is probably missing on most boats. (just my guess)
We pulled the mast this year for what I'm sure was the first time it's been out of the boat and during some measuring I found that we actually have a tall rig, not the standard rig I was told it was.
We stripped the mast for painting and the only tag I found on it was a paper tag on the inside at the bottom that was so far gone it was in tatters and unreadable.
A tape measure is the only sure way to accurately find out what is standing there, even the PO was wrong in his assumption and information he provided, and he owned the boat for 15 years.
