For what its worth so far I replaced my engine mounts last month with the Bushings DF-2205-2. Not a lot of reviews out there about them but that's what a local shop suggested. Good price, exact fit drop in replacement for the original ones. We will see how long they last and if there are any issues. A lot of people recommended the Venus k50 or k75 or a combination of the two in these forums but the sales rep recommended the K40 which was designed for a 3 cylinder engine but it comes with a price tag the others don't.

Not that this info applies in this particular subject, but our 1988 C34 with an aft water tank does not have the fiberglass platform under the aft tank, it is 1/2" painted plywood.
I'd prefer the FRP shelf, but it is what it is.

I had the mast down this year to replace the standing rigging. One comment my rigger made was to not get a photoled for the anchor light to automatically shut off during daylight. Apparently that's another thing to break.

And I did replace all the wiring in the mast. I had switched to an LED stream/deck light and the thick wires they used for the deck light wouldn't fit in the new fixture. Catalina had used a 4 wire in a sheath cable called something like duraflex and so far as I could tell, it wasn't tinned. The other thing that allowed me to do was remove the plug in the mast step, the wires now come unbroken down to a junction box in the bilge.

There's a pretty good drawing in the owners manual. At least on my stock mkii, there are 4 pvc ball valves under the sink plus the 2 thru-hulls. I've marked the PVC ball valves in red and the thru-hulls in blue.

On the port side under the sink are ball valves that turn on the show sump (Aft) or the ice box sump (Forward), and on the starboard side is the fresh water with the aft valve being for the aft tank, forward for the forward. These valves are right next to the thru-hulls.
And in case you are not familiar with those ball valves, the valve is open if the handle is in line with the pipe, closed if the handle is perpendicular to the pipe.

I did not have any issue, as I mentioned I raised the hulk, not lowered the keel. But I just cut thru the mung as closely as I could get.
As I started evenly lifting, it slightly unweighted the keel as it held on. I recall that I was inside when she let go (a deep pitched bang) so I might have been pounding on each bolt nut with a hardwood block and hand sledge.

If plumbed and valve/everything sized correctly one can install a Tee so that one can use a wooden dowel that is the correct OD so that it slides past the open thru hull ball valve to clear it.  The tee can he just above waterline.

Another option is to screw a hose or pipe into a tee only when you need it to bring the top above the waterline.

I've done it (temporarily) with a length of hose on the seacock and sliding a dowel down inside and down thru the ball valve.

My point is, there are different ways to do it.

Quote from: Noah on November 03, 2024, 02:41:38 PMI have to disagree with Ron on this. Much more chance to have the "holes" in the outside-mounted bronze clamshell foul with debris, binnacles, seaweed, etc. your boat your choice, but I wouldn't do it. Mainesail agrees it is not a good idea.

Absolutely agree.  More than once I would have been dead in the h2o from grass blocking an external strainer.

Quote from: robbjd on November 11, 2024, 10:59:55 AMTerry, our Mk2 has a forward tank under the V berth and the aft tank was removed by one of the previous owners. Don't miss the aft tank because of an additional lake water system that we use for washdown, etc. Our beautiful, clean, clear Lake Huron water allows this.
The routing of the tank hoses should be fairly obvious as to which tank they come from. If not, fill both tanks to overflowing, close one of the valves and with the pump running into your sink eyeball the tank level for a change. I found I had to do a thorough cleaning of the forward tank because it wasn't always kept full and mold had grown on the underside of the tank top. I can send a picture of our labelled valve arrangement when I can climb ladders again.

Thanks, would appreciate a photo. I have tried the "turn on off" thing and it did not stop water flowing.

Quote from: Noah on November 09, 2024, 01:33:17 PMAs you are replacing your standing rigging, you might want to consider raising your split backstay (if a PO hasn't done it already). Instead of one turnbuckle high at the meeting point you can use two turnbuckles (one above at each chainplate) and raise the split connection up higher, since you will no longer need a reachable turnbuckle in the middle anymore.

I believe this is CRITICAL.  I raised my backstay split eons ago and did NOT do this, and my remaining single turnbuckle is quite high for any easy maintenance and/or lubrication, it subsequently essentially froze!  It became a real effort to unfreeze.  Raising the split is a great thing to do, avoids head-banging, but needs to be done right.
