You say sluggish, does that mean the engine is turning over slowly?  Turning over slowly sounds like poor battery or poor connection.  If the motor turns over good enough but takes some cranking, my guess would be fuel, a small leak or air leak that drains down over time.

Think you are right about the sender.  When I first got Shamrock the sender was bad.  I took it out and matched with a generic one at the boat parts store, auto supply may have the same.  That was about 20 years ago.
hope that helps,
Jim

Two new issues not.
- After boat has been sitting a couple days, engine start is a little sluggish. Usually takes two pushes.
 - boat plugged into 30 AMP all the time at the pier
 - batteries both test at over 13V
 - once I start the engine and shut down, it immeiately starts when I press the button
 - one battery has some corrosion on the negative side I need to fix

- Fuel gauge JUST stopped working
 - Had filled the tank and it showed full on the gauge and it has always worked since I got the boat
 - Mast is currently off getting rewired, I wonder if this has anything to do with that?
 - Gauge pegs at below E as soon as it has power. Wiki says bad sender unit maybe?

Any insights appreciated.

Main Message Board / Considering Starlink - Anyone ...
Last post by Gulfsailor - November 17, 2024, 06:34:03 AM
We are planning some extended cruising this winter and are considering adding Starlink for work (emails and voip calls).

Does anyone here have it and can you share your experience as far as installation, cost, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Jon/Ron thank you, I will look for those access points when I go to the boat tomorrow.

I have an airhead so no macerator/tank/hose there, but I think if I can get it across the bilge I can find the way to the panel.

Thanks

On the MK1 there's a removable piece of floor by the water heater to access the bilge and aft most keel bolt. It also gives access to pull the wires across the bilge.

Bay : What it look like to me is that the factory layup for the traveler support is not a straight horizontal line.  It appears that the factory put some kind of washer to act as a spacer for those ends because the traveler bars will NOT bend down to meet the under side support.

If you are up to it?, I'd remove the traveler from the boat and reinstall with a thick rubber washer with brutal rubber between the washer and the underside support.

Rich : Here's another route. Go along the inside of the setae ridge up to the battery compartment and drill a small hole so the the wire can go into the battery compartment. Go thru the battery compartment to the end of the battery compartment and then down and follow the battery wires thru the factory conduit pipes and then up to the instrument panel.

I'd recommend that you take some light line or string and have it follow both of the routes and then you can decide which to run the actual wire. I'd recommend 12 gage wire (at least 14 gage).

Quote from: rjabara on November 16, 2024, 09:02:54 AMThanks.  I am with you until "under the floor across the bilge to the bulkhead".  Is there an "easy" way to get under there to pull it across the bilge?

You have omitted the rest of Jon's sentence which means you missed the context of it completely.

He wrote:  under the floor across the bilge to the bulkhead the macerator mounts to, then along that bulkhead up through the hole the holding tank hose passes through to the main distribution panel.

The underlined part is what you missed, and it answers your question completely.

From the forward part of where the water heater sits, you run the power wire across the bilge to the macerator compartment aft of the holding tank and then up to the distribution panel.

Yes. The foam spacers stay in place and sealant applied around and on top of them. Their purpose is allow a deeper/thicker sealant bond between the fiberglas and gelcoat so all of the sealant doesn't get squeezed-out when pressing the window against the gelcoat.
The Catalina factory window replacement drawing/instructions can be found on our website (but I can't locate an easy path to them). A .pdf file of them is in the follow thread in Reply 11.
