Gilbo,

A few questions. What model year is the boat? You have forward water tank? Is the boat in salt or fresh water? What's a log fitting? Also you can leak a gallon or more from a tank before you can tell it's not full.

Depending on where you are there's a ton of CTY owners in the SD area!

It would be best to post what you're looking at when asking about something specific (schematic page) so everyone is on the same page.  Literally.

Diversion,
To give you a little more work.  As long as you have the rudder off give the cutlass bearing a good look.  It's a bit easier to change without the rudder and if you do need to remove the shaft it's a lot easier without the rudder.

QuoteThe question I have is, does the top tiller rest tight against the top rudder support under the aft seat hatch, or do I have some leeway here?  I was hoping to make up the 3/8" by raising the cap, and pushing the rudder a little closer to the hull, (I had about 1/2 gap on the old rudder) to make up the difference.

I have a MKII so Shamrock may be a little different.  The 1/2 inch gap may be the result of the spacer missing.  If it's like Shamrock there should be a spacer/bushing on the rudderpost between the rudder and the hull.  I would guess Shamrock's is about 1/4 inch thick.

I have a water ingress in the forepeak below the forward bunk. The water collects on the forward side of the bulkhead. I am 99% sure it is fresh! No leaks at the log fitting. It is not a major leak!!
The forward water tank is full

Yep, it is suppose to lessen round ups, prop walk control, up wind performance, and still easy on the helm!  I let you know next spring!

Krafty,

The broker wants to charge you for what should have been part of his commission. What a dick!

Paul,

I'm impressed it's lasted this long my original rusted through about 20 years ago. It was a regular non-marine RV unit. I replaced it with a marine unit with a square S/S case which fit the space and worked fine until I took it out of line when I installed a flash heater.

Thank you for the info. I've sailed worldwide with my iridium satphone but think Starlink will be a better option.
