One of th neatest features of this message board is its FIND search engine.

If you hit the Find tab, and type in your subject, you'll find all sorts of information.

I typed in "autopilot" and got this:

http://c34.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=search&s=329609511&reqWords=autopilot

Happy reading.

Stu

PS  Whenever one thinks of asking a question that starts with: "Has anybody...", please take a moment to use the Find feature, which works extremely quickly and pretty thoroughly.  Thanks.

There are basically two issues here:

1.  Is it easy to take the old ones off and fit the new ones on?

YES, it is.  It's just a simple set screw in the base of the handle.  Not an issue.  Very easy.

2.  Does it clear the binnacle handhold tubing?

Seems to be an individual boat situation.  The service bulletin should address that for Mark II owners, given the input above.

I'd get the bulletin and check it out.  Don't understand how much more we can help given what's been discussed already.  Hope I'm not missing something.

Throttle & Shift Levers

Gene,

I changed mine about 6 months after we bought Aquavite in July 1998.  Never had a problem with the pedestal.  Easy to install, probably the easiest installation of ANYTHING on our boats!!!!  Tom's right.  Work great, looks great, very worthwhile, especially if the old handles go blooey on you at the most inappropriate time.

Most of the time it's FEAR (of bleeding).

It is NOT that hard.

It is SOOOO easy, it's silly.

Read this:

FUEL FILTER WRENCH

Brian

Here's the link to the filter wrench discussion:

http://c34.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=329609511&f=829605811&m=539108044&r=493109164#493109164

Nice picture.  How'd you get a camera in there?

That's where the secondary filters are on both the M25 and later engines.

In concept, you are exactly right.

In reality, the secondary fuel filter is a BEAR to access, and you may want to consider NOT filling it with fuel first because access is restricted and if you drop it, guess what.

There was a post on this a few months ago.  I'll try to find it for you later, but try a Find on Fuel Filters and scan through the list.  It talks about filter wrenches which would also be a good find topic.

While this is aninteresting subject, I wonder just how many of us, who regularly change the filters and inspect them (drain water, etc.) have had real engine problems BECAUSE OF the filter.  Not trying to rock the boat, but if indeed things are working well with the 2 micron Racor & water separator and the secondary on the engine, what's the basic problem?  Doesn't regular maintenance and inspection work to "nearly" eliminate engine failure because of the filters themselves (notwithstanding clean fuel habits, cleaning the tank, etc.)?

Ted,

Given Ed Ryan's comments above,it appears that th most efficient and reasonable choice with our setups is to simply sue a 2 micron Racor and use the regular 10 on the engine.  Perhaps someone knows if Kubota or Universal make a 2 micron secondary engine filter, as you asked, but with reasonable changes as also recommended above by sail4, it seems an easy choice.

I agree, it would be interesting to know the answer, but maybe not absolutely necessary.

Racor Replacement #s

Just in case someone asks where this is:

http://c34.org/bbs/index.php?topic=1124.0

Easiest thing to do about the secondary engine mounted fuel filter is to buy a few of them at a time, should last for 5 to 10 years and beat inflation.  All of $20!

Jim

I don't recall a problem.

Try these:

http://c34.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=search&s=329609511&reqWords=through+hulls

There was some discussion awhile back about them and Catalina responded with a long article posted in Mainsheet, I think in two parts.  Check your old Mainsheet magazines, about two years ago.

Personally, I have been satisfied with my valves.  Only one had a problem, the 1 1/2 inch head discharge, so I simply had it replaced.  It's an in line, too.

I would also try a Search on the main C34 website.  There was a post concerning Marelon a few years ago, but it may have been removed.

Different on my '86, port valve (to centerline of boat) is the starboard tank, the aft tank is the starboard outboard valve.

It's really not that hard to trace with a flashlight if you take the drawers out.

Then mark only one on the plywood base under the drawers.  (That's only if you can remember what the second one is for!:))
