Main Message Board / Options

Philosophically, I agree.  For a business, it's hard to justify.  There are soooo many options and so many people.  And how often do you buy a boat, usually lots less than cars.

There is a water heater switch (breaker) on your electrical panel on the AC side.

Either turn all your AC off with the main AC breaker, or just turn off the water heater.

Your batteries have nothing to do with it.

Main Message Board / Lewmar Portlight Question

Hi, I'm Stu.

Recommend you start here: http://www.c34ia.org/phpbb/search.php?mode=results

It's the search screen for ANYTHING.  Type in Lewmar portlights and hit the search button.

There are many "hits" on the question you raised.  You might try this:

http://www.c34ia.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1682&highlight=lewmar+portlights

and

http://www.c34ia.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1073&highlight=lewmar+portlights

and

http://www.c34ia.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=417&highlight=lewmar+portlights

Many more on the full search index.  Of course, you have to pretty much work with the titles, since the search engine picks up the individual words in the subject and the text.

Also do a search on "Ron Hill."  He's written many responses to your question, you just have to do a little index review.

All the best,

You may want to consider widening your audience.  I don't recall a lot of C34s being moved save Jim Moe's and few others.

I recommend using www.catalinaowners.com and some other lists, since more the wider the audience, the more people may have had the experience that you are looking for.

Good luck,

I recommend that you reconsider the Catalina stereo if your only concern is the degree of difficulty in installation.

It is very simple, many have done it, including our work on Aquavite in Alameda.  I would be glad to personally walk you through it.

You can save $$, and also learn an awful lot about your boat's electrical systems, and this is as good a way to start as you possibly can.   :D

Let me know how I can help, feel free to call me to discuss.

Dodger handles can EASILY  be added, and sailing around here you NEED them for safety.  There's a great article about a year ago in Good Old Boat magazine about the simplicity of adding rails.  Let me know if you'd like a copy.

All the best,

There is a thread going on another 'board about the cost of a new boat (a C36) with certain options, that may interest you:

http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/pviewall.tpl?fno=23&uid=73200280089&sku=2004239175705.62&rid=2004240174423.42#2004240174423.42

My understanding of a C350 new-boat issue is that the owners were not pleased with the plasma screen machine, more-so because of the intermittent locations that the factory employed, not necessarily with the quality of the screen.

I've received a series of "Help" emails from people who have had trouble "re-signing" onto this upgraded message board.

When we switched it over, there was an  IMPORTANT MESSAGE  on the main Forum page, that was, in hindsight, not immediately apparent.  You had to scroll down to read it.

So...just to refresh:

The entry to the website (main home page: www.c34ia.org) does not require a password.  Or a username.

The ONLY sections that require user names and passwords are the Online Tech Notes and this message board.

The message board, now accessible through the new "FORUMS" line, uses your own made up password and the username is also up to you.

You shouldn't be having trouble getting on, either for the Online Notes (the assigned username and password from the Association) or the message board (the one YOU make up).  Phil Imhof, our new webmaster, posted the instructions for the new message board, and here's how you get THERE:

If you go to Forums on the BLUE background at the top of the main website (Home Page) NOT the underlined Forums on the left side, you'll get this message:

Moving Day is here!!

We have moved to a bulletin board system on the new website. All the messages (hopefully) have been transferred to the new system. All the logins for users exist as they did on the old message board at Infopop.

You will, however, need to reactivate your username.

This is the procedure to follow: 1. When you get to the Login screen at the message board, click on the "log In" and then the  "I forgot my password" link.2. Enter your username & e-mail address as requested on the screen.3. Check your e-mail in a few minutes. You should get a message. 4. Open the message and click on the link to activate your user ID. You will get a message that your  ID has been activated again. 5. Write down your new password as noted in the e-mail message. 6. Go back to the Message board login screen and login with your username and new password. You will be able to change your password to something else after you have logged in. 7. If you experience a problem, and things don't go the way you think they should, don't hesitate to e-mail me at:

webmaster@c34ia.org or excalibur@mssa.org.

To summarize:

Tech Notes Online:  you need to be an Association member to get the username and password.

Message Board: follow the instructions above.

Hope this helps.

Main Message Board / Chainplate Rebedding

Roc

It doesn't matter, if that's your concern.  Figure the worst case, because if  it's "solid" it can still have moisture in it.  BTW, it's cored.  I reread your post and there is no fiberglas around the chainplates, only the deck, so I assumed you meant balsa cored or hard solid wood.

Also guess you've already read all the references on Chainplates and Rebedding from the Search.  :)

You mentioned you put on eight feet.  Where did you locate them?

With ours, I figure four ought to do it, one each side about halfway.

What do you think, and how well does yours work?

Thanks,

The new fuel pump is in and working.  Before I took the old one out, I checked the new one by connecting it to the battery with a pair of wires.  I also checked the wiring to the old pump's site by diconnecting the wirng first and checking it with the new pump, to assure that it wasn't a wiring problem.

A little tight getting the new one in, and had to remove the hose barbs from the old pump and reinstall them in the new pump.  Works great, and I noticed that I'd had a reduced idle RPM (800 to below 600) for the past few months.  Not anymore.
