Main Message Board / Re: AC WIRING ISSUES
July 10, 2012, 05:39:35 AM
My recollection on my 87 before I changed out the panel was that on the AC side, it had 2 fuses, one was used for the battery charger and one for the water heater.  The cabin receptacles were protected by the main 30 amp fuse.  Although not an electrician, in a home situation,  a 30 amp circuit would require 10 ga. wire and Im not sure what ga wire runs throughout the cabin.  This is one of the reasons I changed out the panel so I could have a separate circuit for the cabin as well as add a spare circuit for future air conditioning.

I've used nav-x first on my lap top and later on an ipad. They are different softwares however, but both allow you to download  charts for free for the US and virgin islands.

I like the concept of your design but agree with Ted's comments.  Perhaps a slight modification by adding a removable bottom plate, same size as
the top plate that would create a sandwich of the deck.  This would not be a sealing plate as Ted has pointed out of the original design, but would act more as a backing plate and help guarantee that if there is a small amount of flex in the deck, the seal on the top plate would remain intact.

The test procedures that I mentioned above can be found in the tech wiki section under Fuels and then gauges.

Scotty, I've been a user of a MAC and GPSnavx and think it is great.
With the 3G ipad, if you load InavX into the computer, charts are then downloaded into the Ipad and
it uses the built in GPS to track your location.  I don't believe it relies on cell towers, although I think they call it
a "GPS assisted" unit which means it can  use other cues such as cell towers to speed up  determining your location.
I don't think the wifi models have GPS.

As a woodworker, don't use Murphy's to clean wood, if you have any thoughts of refinishing it in the future. Murphy's will leave an oil
residue that will make it impossible to finish with polyurethane unless the wood is completely stripped to bare wood.
On a boat, this would pertain to cabin soles also.
Alcohol is OK.

This is an excellent article on the importance of grounding the AC and  DC circuits.  It also explains
the ramifications of doing so and why a galvanic isolator is important to protect your boat.
