Main Message Board / Rigid Boom Vang
November 25, 2005, 06:34:07 PM
I'm installing a Garhauer (sp) rigid boom vang this weekend.  Since there were no instructions and when I asked for some I got a rather short email, does anyone have a picture they could post or send?  It all seems straightforward, but I hate drilling holes in the mast or boom until I'm sure.

Main Message Board / New or Used Jib

OK, I have one question (in 15 parts...).

After moving my C34 from SoCal to Texas, it's only taken me three weeks to lose my headsail.  I secured it the way I always did in Newport Beach, only to have the high winds last Sunday unfurl it and tear it to pieces.  Not a huge issue since nothing else was damaged and I needed to think about a replacement for a 15 year old sail.  My question is regarding the "luff tape" (I'm hoping I have these terms correct).  I keep seeing reference to #6, #7 or #8 for the foil.  If I have the original Hood SeaFurl 915 DL, what size do I need?

Also, any suggestions on the size for Lake Travis?  I was thinking of a 150%.

Yes Stu, I did a search first.   :thumb:

Cheers.

Main Message Board / Slip Size
July 30, 2005, 08:25:25 AM
One of the marina's here at Lake Travis in Texas asked what was the narrowest slip in which my C34 would fit.  I'd say the 14' but can it fit in a 12'?  They have a 35'x12' available but there is a waiting list for the 35'x14'.  I'm hoping to get into this marina rather than keeping her in CA.

Main Message Board / Texas Sailing?
July 21, 2005, 03:12:38 PM
OK, I'm to the point of moving my C34 to Texas but would like some feed-back from anyone who has an opinion (yeah, I know....).  I live in Austin, TX and have considered putting the boat at Lake Travis (about 30 miles long and reasonably deep).  It has fresh water and no hurricanes, but I really hate being surrounded by drunken power-boaters and we seem to have more than our share.  Corpus Christi seems inexpensive, nice town with a bay and an ocean, but it's 3 hours away and has a hurricane once in a while.  Insurance is cheaper at the lake and slips are cheaper at Corpus.  Anyone have any experience in these areas or want to share their thoughts?

Main Message Board / Front Hatch ID
May 31, 2005, 06:37:27 PM
I'm thinking the hatch above the v-berth on my 90 C34 is a Bromar, but can anyone tell me the model?  The hatch has no riser arm(s) and I want to make sure I order the correct one(s).  From the Bromar site it even looks like there might have been two risers?  Thanks for any help.  I swear I'll try to cut down on questions after I get to visit my C34 in July, I'm just trying to stockpile parts for a quick week of projects.

Main Message Board / Nav Station Instruments

OK, now that I have my 1990 C34, it's time to start making her my own.  The PO had Raymarine ST60 depth, speed and wind instruments at the helm.  I'm tying it all together by adding a Raynav 300 GPS, ST60 Multi and a Raymarine 215 DSC vhf radio at the nav station.  I'd like to mount everything flush on the vertical surface behind the chart surface (towards the head).  Does anyone know of any issues I should be aware of and most important does anyone have a photo they could share of their installation.  I really want this to look professional and not something slapped together.

Main Message Board / 1990 C34 Manual
May 19, 2005, 07:50:56 AM
I'm now the proud owner of a 1990 Catalina 34 named "Godspeed".  The prior owner did not have an owners manual and the only one here at C34.org is for a 1988 (are there major differences?).  Catalina Yachts is not sure if they have one to sell and suggested I try here instead.  Does anyone have one they can copy or scan?  I would of course pay for the copy charges and mailing.

Cheers

Main Message Board / Engine Survey
April 28, 2005, 01:17:18 PM
I've made an offer on a C34 and just got the results of the engine survey.  It's a 1990 and the survey says:

Needs full annual engine and transmission service
Needs Head bolt and Valve adjustment
Needs new Heat Exchanger due to age
Water pump is leaking and gasket needs replacing
Replace saltwater inlet hose
Needs coolant recover tank
Needs new engine cooling system hoses
Engine needs alignment (.008)

Does this sound like normal wear or should I be worried? My 1984 C30 I bought 2 years ago didn't have these kind of issues!

Main Message Board / Boat Transport

It looks like I may be buying a C34 in Long Beach CA.  Does anyone know a good transport company or have any advice on what to look for?  I would like to move the sailboat to Corpus Christi TX.
