Main Message Board / Re: Prop rotation

I had to replace my prop a few years ago on my '86 #219, called Jerry Douglas at Catalina, he confirmed RH rotation.

I installed 4 on Sedona Sunset, actually had to screw them in as the tape didn't hold. I will confirm that they don't stop the rain coming in. For the time it took to install, I'm disappointed, however, they look good.

The installer really messed up, as he put the vent hose into the heat exchanger, which is actually done on speed boats, not slow boats, which caused quite a squeal sound and excessive heat on the shaft. I went to the web site and found this to be true. I replaced the vent hose  with about 6' of hose,  drilled a hole in the head sink in the corner and routed it up thru there. Never a problem. Easy fix, hose must vent above the water line.

Prior to  my purchasing #219, I had a 1974 C27.  The keel bolts were in rough shape so I called Catalina and they suggested that I use the 1/2X10 lag bolts. I bought them, 4 I think, and then drilled the holes, not an easy task, but do able.  I coated the lags with 3M5200 and drove the bolts, down used wide washer, with an impact driver.  Not a really easy project, took some time, but it worked. I never worried about the keel after that. I used a 1/2" drill with long bit. Good luck. Jeff

I have an '86 which had the original traveler when I bought her in 2004. Next season I sent just the traveler bar to Garhauer, so certain bolt holes would be drilled correctly.  One of the best upgrades I did to the boat, now a 5:1 setup, all lines leading aft, used larger bolts to secure. I tried replacing the torlon ball bearings on the cars, ya right. My 2 cents, replace the entire system, it makes a huge difference in overall performance. Jeff

Eric, my sole looks just like picture Noah sent in. I think the PO did some trimming.

Eric,

Did you replace the sole, or part of it?  It does look like the sole under the table and the other section was trimmed a little too narrow so it created spaces that can collect dirt and stuff.

My '86 has the same crack every year, the Catalina smile. Sometimes the crack is straighter, sometimes it looks like yours.  Each spring, I sand down both sides, usually take a philips screwdriver and open up the area slightly and fill with a 2 part water tite filler. I never get a leak into the bildge, nor does the smile get any longer or wider, just a yearly maintance issue.  I had a C27 years ago and it had the same issue. Good luck.

Becki,

I have an '86 #219. There are just 3 plexiglas panels that go in the ice box.  I just cleaned mine last Saturday. Largest piece on bottom, 2 on top. Bottom piece slides up and on frame.

Wow, thats really sad news, this f'n disease has ruined everything. When I bought Sedona Sunset, 1986,  17 years ago, I worked with Guido to upgrade all turning blocks, main sheet block set up, clutches, new traveler, boom vang blocks, bow spring rollers, he went out of his way to help me.  He was the guru for the older boats, also knew everything  for the newer ones. RIP Guido.

Buddy,

I replaced old halyards with 7/16" lines. The specs show 3/8", but I like the feel and strength of the 7/16" lines. Don't know where your from, but I got my lines from a company, R&W rope in New Bedford,Ma. Excellent customer service, quality rope and good prices. AS far as the winch covers, Defender or WM.

Stu, I spoke to Paul at Facet the other day hoping there would be an application chart, but not. I mentioned that I wont be to the boat till spring and once on, I'll get the info off the pump and he will tell  me the correct one to use. I will then check on Amazon. Looks like it depends on PSI and flow rate. Happy holidays to all.

Thanks to all.  The boat is buttoned up for the winter and I am recovering from knee replacement surgery, so this will wait till spring.  Before removing, I'll check to see if I can feel any vibrations from the pump, if not, off to NAPA I will go.
