Thank you Noah for your feedback. I already have few people interested so for now will stick to the listing price. And of course it's negotiable. I fully understand that I am taking a big loss here. The only reason why I did the upgrades is my plan was to keep the boat for 10 years and then sell it.

My family situation has changed and I am moving to a land locked area. I bought this boat in 2021 and brought it fully up to spec and then some. It is located at the Herrington Harbour North Marina in Deale, MD. Price includes slip at HH North and launch in the Spring 5K value. This is my first time listing a boat, so if I miss something important please let me know. Asking price $67500. I do realize that it's higher than the normal market, which is at around 40K but please go through the upgrades to understand the ask. I am not trying to make money here. Because there is a limitation on the number of photos here, please see more at https://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/103194

Catalina 34s for Sale / where to list 1988 C34
December 22, 2023, 03:24:08 AM
Hi folks, I am planning to list my 1988 C34 here, but also was curious what other sites should I use. I am not planning to engage a broker, so yacht world is not an option.

Not a monitor, but it is a 32" HDR tv.

I would have to mount it to the mast to make it work, since I need to look at code. But I am not sure if its a good idea to be drilling the mast.

Hi all, I need to setup to be able to work from the boat. I am in tech, so need to be able to mount 32-38" monitor. I was thinking to use a wall type mount and screw it to the mast, but wanted to check with the group to see if anyone else has done it and approach they took.

Medved, Robert has a very nice system that may be more than you're looking for to cover weekends. Like Jim said, it depends on how you use your boat. What is your amp usage per day at anchor, and what do you have for batteries?

I have standard lead acid batteries. I like to use auto helm while sailing, and then anchor light, make some coffee or tea (without using my stove), cabin lights, etc. which solar setup or high output alternator would cover. The big one is an AC, which is 16500BTU 30amp start up and then 10-12amp draw from there. I cruise Chesapeake Bay and it gets hot and humid here quick. So far I was coming back to my marina to get plugged in to the shore power, but looking for a way to start staying on the hook. Found this new honda gen that should give me what I am looking for. I am not looking to run AC all night, just few hours to cool the boat down. https://www.bloomberg.com/press-releases/2022-01-18/honda-to-begin-sales-of-eu32i-all-new-portable-generator-kyjii0ve

Thank you :) This gives me an idea. I think I will go with a portable generator for now and see if that solves it for me.

Here's a PDF that provides an overview of what I did to upgrade my MKII with LiFePo4 house battery and solar charging. We like to anchor in remote-ish parts of Biscayne Bay for weekends and long-weekends with constant refrigeration and fans. So far the system works well.

Would love feedback, opinions and questions. I'm not in any way an expert but I've been researching it all quite intensely for a while now.

Thank you for posting. I am thinking about doing this to my c34 as well. If you don't mind me asking how much did you end up investing? Also, did you consider high output generator and/or small portable generator. My use is also weekends, and not long term cruising. Most of the time I just day sail, so don't want to drop 10K for such a limited need.

Hi all, I have reached out to local vendor to install Raymarine i60 Wind Pack, with Short Arm Vane Transducer on my 1988 C34. Vendor asked for 2K to do the install. Does this sound reasonable? asking as a newbie

Hi Medved. I've just installed a new Raymarine wind instrument. My riggers charged me about $200 to fit the masthead unit. I did the rest myself even though I'm new to boat ownership.

Running the wiring involves a bit of boat yoga and some patience mousing the cable up through the Edson guard rail. You'll need a large hole saw and powerful mains powered drill to make the hole for the instrument. None of it is difficult. $2k bucks seems way over the top.

MaineSail has written a good piece about how to drill holes in NavPods. I followed his advice exactly and it worked out just fine.

I had rigger install the wind vane transducer and run the cable through the mast last week for few hundred based on suggestions here, so I don't know how that other vendor got to 2K. I am now trying to figure out how to run the cable to the instruments. Any further details or pictures from your install would be greatly appreciated.

@Ron I tried to search for it, but could not find it. Can you post a link?

Medved--Last summer I replaced my Datamarine instruments with an i70s wind/depth/speed pack.  It took me a couple of weekends (10-20 hours?) to remove old and install new, including running new wiring.  A rigger charged $200 to install the wind instrument only, mast up (I connected it).  I didn't have an existing wind instrument so he used the VHF coax to bring a messenger line up through the mast conduit and pull the wind cable down.  It took him and a helper an hour or less for the job.  He said it went as smoothly as it could.  My 1990 has a keel stepped mast.

I agree with Noah that there are a lot of variables to the cost, including hourly rate and bid type (hourly estimate or fixed bid).

My apologies for not providing all the info up front, but it is a tall rig with a keel step and no previous wind instrument and the mast is up/boat in the water. What this vendor described to me, is exactly what Kyle did using VHF cable to bring a messenger. I reached out to a rigger to see what they would charge to do this.

Hi All, I have searched Tech Wiki and the overall site, but could not find any articles or threads on replacing starboard side manual winch with an electric one. Has anyone done it? Any feedback on the best way to install?

Met with the boat yard today and all are correct that this is the "smile" issue and they told me it is not a big deal and just a "maintenance" item every few years. They said I will be back in the water by next week :)

This issues shown in the pictures appear to be easily repairable. Do a search for "Catalina Smile". The minor separation you see at the keel is common on our boat and not a cause for alarm.
I think the crack near your prop strut is also covered on this site. Do some searching and I'm certain you'll find helpful information.

thank you Dave. What about the back of the keel? it looks pretty bad from my perspective
