Main Message Board / Battery catastrophe
May 10, 2007, 06:52:21 PM
:cry4`  Well I finally spent my old group 27's so I bought 4 new golf cart batteries at Sam's club.  One accidently tipped over
spilling all the acid out.  Can I add acid from the car parts store, or is it not going to match the  others now and I should buy
another one??  Need input, thanks in advance.

Dave:

Another thing to check is the  prop.  Sometimes if they're real sharp on the edges they will or can
create vibrations that could cause a squeal.

I agrree with Jon.  Welds should never fail if done correctly so this should not be
a "past the warranty" situation and a repuable company would have re-welded at
no cost.

here.

Main Message Board / Re: When do you winterize question
October 20, 2006, 07:33:27 PM

Dale:

I would think that if the water temp is around 55 degrees (F) your boat shouldn't freeze
unless the outside temp drops down pretty low.  Around here we can keep the boat without
winterizing right now if we keep it in the water but as soon as it is hauled it needs to be
winterized.  I'm not sure what the water temp is right now but I'm guessing around 50 or
55 degrees.

Steve & Ron:

I don't launch with the trailer as there are a lot of travel-lifts in this area.  I use it to haul
to the marina for launch with the travel-lift and to haul back home in the fall.  The biggest
reason to haul and store at home for the winter is that I can work on projects, etc. over
the winter (I have done a fair amount of projects and upgrades already). It does save money
also.

Ron, I have to hire a mobile home hauler to haul the trailer w/boat as it is an oversized load
and need a permit.  I can move it around the yard though with a 4wd half ton pickup.

Thanks for the replys.

Sams Club has 6 volt golf cart batteries for abt. $49 ea.  Same specs as Trojan
T105's I think.

A 3" hole is very large.  If it were me I'd drill it a lot smaller, maybe a 1" at the largest.  Do you
have large connectors to go through?  If so you might consider taking them off, running the
wires through then re-wire the connectors.  My boat is deck stepped and has a smaller hole for
the wires (can't remember the size now though.
For what it's worth.

Is the switch that you're talking about OEM or did the PO install it?  I wonder if it may be
a starter batter on/off switch.  If the placement is under the chart table it surely has me
stumped.
Let us know what you find out.

Main Message Board / Re: Hot Water Heater Purchase?
June 05, 2006, 05:48:56 PM
Tom:
I just went thru the same thing.  My old round heater just rusted out.  I did a search for
the original manufacturer (found their label on the heater after I removed it from the boat)
and found that they had a lawsuit and went out of business years back.
I had trouble finding an affordable round heater so went with a square one.  I picked the
Seaward model F600W which is white poly coated.  According to the tech from Seaward it
is even better than the stainless model for anti-rust.  The make the unit in galvanized steel and
stainless steel as well (we're talking about the casing, the tanks are all the same and are
aluminum I believe.  The best price that I found for the Seaward heater was from John Peets
of Boat Stove Docker in Florida. The only thing is he only takes Pay Pal or waits for your check
to get to him first.  His number is (954) 817-1246.  I'm still in the process of installing as I
took advantage of the heater out of the way to insulate the icebox and do the sink drain
mod.  I had to modify the placement of the pressure water pump to make room and I removed
the foot ice box pump and replaced it with an electric pump to make more room and to also
provide a little more storage hopefully.  Seaward recommended the heat exchanger on the
front so all hose connections are on the same end, I think either way would have worked ok,
(they make the connections on either end).  If I can help in any other way just holler, good
luck.

Main Message Board / Replacing water heater
May 03, 2006, 06:46:52 PM
My existing water heater is round and has totally fallen apart so I need to replace it.  I
have noticed that most of the water tanks are now square vs. round (except Raritan which
is more than double the price) and wonder if anyone has changed their round one for a
square one in a Mark I, 1987?  I measured the space and it seems like it almost will not fit
in.  By the way, it's under the sink.  Would appreciate it if anyone can help me with this
question.  I've looked at most of the water heater discussions but couldn't find a definate
answer to this question.  Waiting for a response, thanks in advance.

Main Message Board / stripped lag bolts

The engine is out of the boat at this time, getting a main seal replaced.
Does that make any difference in your suggestions?
Thanks, Larry

Some of the lag bolts that hold the motor mounts to the engine bed
are stripped.  Has anyone dealt with this?  What is the fix?  Any
suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Main Message Board / Bow cleats
May 29, 2005, 05:10:03 AM
Ron:
Thanks for the suggestion on leaving the center bow cleat.
In my case however, the new bow roller setup does not leave room
to leave it so we're down to the two bow cleats.
Thanks, Larry
