Discovered a ding towards the end of the prop blade. Looks like maybe the PO had smoothed it out.

Do I need to take any additional action, ie, will it affect the balance?

It's amazing the difference between east coast and west coast boaters. When my boat comes out of the water it's usually once every four years for 3 or 4 days.

Yeah, but you've got year-round sailing, we have to hole up for 4-5 months just thinking about sailing while we're shoveling the snow off our driveways!

If it makes you feel any better, my club is paying something like $250 a month for our square footage of land storage, on top of the annual slip fee at the same time. :cry4`

I know running a marina is a low-profit-margin enterprise, but ours has 1100 boats on the hard over the winter and I've decided that's where the money is...

thanks guys, all good suggestions, keep em coming, she's splashing in 6 weeks, so still plenty of time to add to the list.

Here's a pic of my zinc after two years. I'm thinking another one would be cheap insurance.

I'm also wondering if I should install one on the skeg while on the hard this spring. PO didn't have one on the skeg.

Does it specifically protect the skeg or is is just additional protection? (I probably just answered my own question)

The recent post about checking the torque on the keel bolts made me wonder what else I should be thinking about with the boat on the hard until this spring. Once splashed, except for short hauls, she'll probably be in the water for two years. A search didn't really come up with any check lists.

I'm checking items off the typical out-of-the-water winter work list: minor hull repair/painting, cleaning topsides, replacing zincs, lubing sea cocks, servicing knot meter, etc., and a couple non-standard items: inspected steering, serviced the dripless and replaced a noisy damper plate at the same time. (I'm also doing a bunch of things, replacing running rigging, etc, that can be done anytime.)

What else should I be thinking about that can only be done while the boat is out of the water?

Poplar Island has quite a history. During the War of 1812, the island was the base camp for the British fleet on their way to DC.

In the mid-1800s, they raised black cats on the island for their hides (apologies to any cat owners who are reading this).

One very cold winter when the Bay froze over between the Poplar Island and Tilghman Island to the east, all the cats escaped over the ice bridge to Tilghman—and that was the end of the cat fur business!

The locals insist there are still black feral cats with very nice fur roaming around on Tilghman Island that are ancestors of the original Poplar Island escapees.

the good news is that even though Tangier Island is slowly disappearing, we're also "growing" new ones

Tangier is a beautiful island. Unfortunately, it is slowly disappearing due to land subsidence and sea level rise.

Only one, small marina in town right in the main channel. Can be a little tricky getting into and out of the slips when the tide is running at a couple knots and the wind is blowing in the opposite direction.

Definitely worth at least a couple night stay so you can spend some time walking around and talking with the locals, particularly after the "tourists" leave on the last ferry.

how do you insert pics in the message so they don't have to be downloaded?

Try jpg not pdf

Thanks Stu, success.

Now will you talk me out of drilling bigger holes in the cabin top? :D
