I am not familiar with your engine, however looking at the gear cover and the block I cannot exactly tell the route the oil takes through the block. I see the 2 oring seals that are for the oil journals. Also, the gasket seals around the block and cover where the filter empties into the engine. I might follow the oil flow. Maybe something in the filter or cover is restricting the flow cause abnormal oil pressure which is causing the leak. I know you said not to mention filter but if the oil is being pumped/forced into the wrong or somehow restricted filter maybe causing the leak. The filter is the only difference that was made. just a thought

Take the belt off and see if you still have the squeal. You can run the engine without it for 5 minutes or so.

Good news! I have checked my compression and each cylinder looks good! So happy to rule out a head gasket issue. I think my next step is going to be inspecting the heat exchanger for pin holes.

Just curious, what was your compression? TY

Noah,
Your work looks nice as usual. I have 50 ft of chain which is more than enough for the Chesapeake, however I "feel" that my bow is heavy and have thought of reducing some of the length. Do you know how much weight your chain adds? On a side note, how did your hip surgery turn out?

I thought I would post this for fun. I went fishing with my brother-in-law who grew up on the shores of the bay Sunday. It was opening day for Rockfish, and we managed to catch a couple. We then fileted, baked and topped with crab imperial. This is about as Maryland as you can get. Although the crabmeat was from Indonesia, there is no way the local crab industry can meet demand.

Stay away from anything that is sealed, IE the base of lifeline stanchions. Do not get carried away with the pressure washer like I do when using around my house, it can be addictive.

First sail of the year was terrific. If you can see the videos I have the ship that has been aground in the Chesapeake for a month. Great sail, 24 miles, 1 tack and averaged 7 knots.

Follow the manual, extra length adds mor line in the cockpit to deal with when sails are raised.

I know this post is a little old..... I have a 1988 C34 with the same companionway as pictured in this post. On the inside of the companionway there is a weep hole in the center of the fiberglass. This allows a small drip to drop right where the engine cover meets the companionway. This has caused some rot. Not bad but I need to fix it. I thought water was coming around the companionway but it is coming through the weep hole.

Would rebedding the teak side pieces help? Not sure how water gets in the hollow part of the companionway. It's the only thing I can think of doing.

Bob not sure where you say the weep hole is located. I do not believe that the boat would come with it. Where is the rot located? If the hole is where the leak is I would fill it first and see if the leak stops before rebedding the teak sides. My thoughts are than when you start with the sides it will lead to doing all the cockpit teak which may take a while and inhibit spring sailing. I would save that job for the fall.

Noah very nice work as usual! I want to replace mine because the bowl is too small, there had been a discussion about feeling like you are sitting on a bucket. Although it is still better than the "chopper" I had on my Catalina 25. Noah are you sailing much in SD this time of year?
