Main Message Board / Lewmar hatch clutch

One of the friction stays on my trapezoid hatch broke off yesterday. Carnage reviled 2 snapped rivets...

Quick internet searches makes me think it is not uncommon problem.

I have seen following recommendations:   (does anyone have experience with this problem or any comments ?)

Options :
Blind rivets
Solid rivets
Other fastener ?

Material :
Aluminum
Monel
SS

Anti-corrosion compound:
Duralac

Rivet size
Looks like 5 mm diameter,  not sure about original length ...

Pic from the web showing similar situation

I have replaced my water heater last winter I don't remember using anything special maybe your boat is different under the sink.
I had to remove port side frame and under sink drawer only .
The far or as you describing "outboard" flange screws were removed with impact driver (smaller then drill)  with long philips bit.
From what I remember my left hand was holding a drill (thru space where drawer was) and my right hand was locating screws and setting the bit on them (thru foot pump door)
as you mentioned visibility is 0 but it was absolutely doable by "touch"

I never found an alternative to Raymarine cables

eBay should help in cost reduction to about $100

5 way connector
1 terminator
in-line terminator
Seatalk to NMEA200 cable

assuming that you have 3 spur cables for wind depth and speed

Do you have Seatalk or Seatalk NG  instruments  ?

Reasons for using a vented loop and loop location :
1) Can't be placed between supply and pump because during pumping  there is a suction (normal operation)
2) Bowl is below the water line and if pump fails in "open state" water will overflow (assuming open seacock and enough water in the system)
3) There is no "suction"  between the pump and bowl during normal operation and this makes it a good location

Looks good but I would suggest using better water hoses....

I have seen one at Morgan marina NJ - exactly fitting your description and not too long ago - broker was very open to receive any offer.
I do not see it listed anymore but, call the marina, ask for Pete he will know if boat is still for sale.
It was MK1 standard rig WK, there was substantial damage from leaks (deck hardware),  no head sail, main in very bad shape, running engine, upgraded propeller and elliptical rudder ,no or basic instruments etc ...
On hard for several years.
She was waaay too much of the project for me this time around.
Good luck!

More information is needed for more detailed suggestion.
Please provide brand and model #of instruments and transducers in your current setup

If you have Raymarine EV100 autopilot then components are connected using Seatalk NG - this type of "network" needs "special translation" to communicate with old Seatalk (available from Raymarine) Part Number: E22158
Now about  connecting  almost any MFD by B&G  to  raymarine wind transducer "directly" -  easiest way is to install Raymarine iTC-5 for transducers and  satalk NG to NMEA2000 cable for B&G connection (some other combinations are possible - depending on what is already installed)

I'm currently using:  B&G MFD + Raymarine transducers and autopilot + Standard horizon AIS    without any problems.

What is Mainsails recommended cooling fluid ?

2) Cables from below :   Power,  NMEA 2000 backbone, sounder , network ( wired ethernet option)
a)  Vulcan , Zeus2 and 3 has its own power input
b)  DST 800 for B&G is simply a  NMEA 2000 device
c) Correct
d) Garmin instrument is required to send wind info from wireless transducer to the NMEA 2000 network (most likely combined cost higher then unsteping )
e) yes It will send AIS and receive GPS info  via NMEA 2000 connection
f) yes , ... B&G autopilot will need below deck actuator and it is a very nice, but also very expensive proposition

Will this be a DIY installation ?
I would recommend discussing your choices with good local dealer or installer.

Now I'm concerned   :nail  ..... my new to me boat has similar crack showing (appears to be cosmetic)  , bolts are fine no visible damage inside , transmission was working fine last season (3-4 h of use )
I wonder if my PO used similar contraption....
On the subject of the "contraption" it would be fine and safe for the boat if you add a pipe diameter large enough to accommodate bearing and resting on the strut aft surface.
Pipe must also be longer then protruding shaft. This would remove any forces from the shaft and any prying force from the strut . One change big difference.

Peggie explained me that there is no diff between Marine and Home other than "marine" is more concentrated. (They have versions for marketing purposes)

I actually asked her the same question last October, and answer was something like - it depends where that shelf is (temperature).
1-2y should be fine in normal home environment.
