Definitely a sound advice about scupper hoses, however he has "1990 MK1.5 " - no scuppers

An anchor locker drain is worth inspecting, at the same time see if there are any any modifications - factory original boat does not drain from under V berth to the bilge - at least not for first 20"

I just vacuumed about 1.5 gal out of my bilge after 3 months on hard with decent cover installed. ( I'm also trying to figure out if this is from the mast only)

6 gal in sounds bit much. 1.5 does not have scuppers but there is an emergency tiller cover that was leaking on my boat.

Nice electric head setup !

-who sails with holding tanks full?!
emm....  ask anyone operating pumpout station

-vent a discharge? Again, I don't sail with tanks full.
Noted , thing is even if you get close to 3/4 full in choppy water thigs will be moving and slushing. Vent location is something to consider especially with wedge shaped tank mounted quite high.

- no need to re route deck pump out or vent, they are all close.
a stock vent will be close - very close actually

deck fill on my boat is about 24 inch worth of cabinets forward from the locker. Sounds like your boat is different.

As many times said on this forum:  naturally YBYC.
I wish you good luck  and I'm looking forward to "after" pictures.

This quite possibly will be a first C34 modification of that type.

I can see a few downsides of this solution

- potentially 250 lb  with center of mass  moved aft up and outboard
- custom made tank required
- tank vent has real potential to become a discharge hose when heeling
- re-route pumpout hose and relocate fitting on the deck
- hose from head would need to make a couple of interesting turns in tight space
- convenient access to the side of the electrical panel compartment (for running wires) blocked permanently.

Alba Combi is way easier to calibrate and can monitor more signals then Actisense EMU-1

http://www.albacombi.com/

Unfortunately I cant find any unwanted reasonably prices examples of that device

All engines used on C34 do not have any electronic management components so  YDEG-04 module in your post is not going to work

You would need something like :
  - AlbaCombi Engine Monitoring
or
  - ActiSense  EMU-1 NMEA 2000® Engine Monitoring Unit

to convert analog signals (temp rpm oil press )  to NEMA format

I agree that having even basic engine data on the network is cool but it is expensive and not really useful.

Main Message Board / Re: Soda blasting and barrier paint

Few years ago I had my boat soda blasted in the fall by the boat yard (or their specialized sub contractor) and I was quire happy with the result (walnut blasting was actually priced higher)
From what I understand any blasting gets more expensive every time "regulatory" wheels turn.
There was no blisters so following spring I did some "light" sanding followed by 4  coats of Pettit Protect Epoxy primer (use alternate gray and white colors to ensure even coverage)

Lessons learned:
Even light sanding of the bottom becomes way more unpleasant each time I'm doing it.  - I'm sure age is irrelevant   they just don't make the sandpaper like they used to
Having extra jack stands makes moving them around easier and safer
If you are painting solo - time required to finish single coat of Pettit Protect Epoxy primer in ~ 80F on c34 wing keel   is about the same as the minimum recoat time
4 coats + 1st antifouling = rather long day

After bit of the research I purchased New England V-100 for my halyards (from APS in Annapolis -sadly out of business now)

You can still find nicely put together and still relevant APS line selection guides on the waybackmachine

In my case only problem I encountered with the upgrade was my Garhauer rope clutch performance when introduced to  V-100  (I tried both garhauer models).

Nautos XR clutch solved this problem and I'm very happy with both.

Standard Horizon GX 6500 never went into production - unfortunately.
Looks like B&G just released V60-B with integrated transponder however price is definitely higher than what standard horizon was promising.

I definitely like the folding to one side idea better then popular - halve on each side
However I'm sill wondering about the "rain proofing"
I was contemplating use of some gasket or overlap to keep the splash or rain water on the outside.
Is it something I need to worry about  ?

Sorry I just picked random photo showing piano hinge usage in companion way doors -  It is not same door or boat

I guess we have to wait for Womble to clarify.

very nice job, not sure what MarcZ meant by Piano Hinges, and it certainly looks like a C34 MK1, Someday I'm gonna take time and hopefully make doors, awesome job

Interesting design
Are you making these for sale?
Any leaks on the piano hinge or inserts when raining ?
More Pics please
( Boat in pic does not look like c34 Mk I  or II)

I would not worry about any deformation under load just look how many ball bearings are bearing (intended) the load,  the number / surface is quite large.

GHm blocks have  10y  warranty

Only time I deviated from generally great GHm hardware was when looking for ratcheting  furling block (Garhauer does not make one ) and rope clutches.
