Main Message Board / Re: Water tank clean-out

I have, thanks for the reminder. I was thinking about the tanks themselves though (sort of related to the BPA craze) . Peggy doesn't really discuss that, it's just about the water.

I've always worried about drinking the water from my '86 tanks. Did you replace yours on your 87, or are they original? Maybe I'm just paranoid. I bring a separate 5gal container for drinking water.

Susan's advice and info worked grate! I got the one from Amazon ("used", it was perfect in original box). Made a cardboard template and cut it to size. See photo - looks almost as good as hers. Thanks Susan!

Main Message Board / 3D printed Catalina 34 logos
June 13, 2019, 12:48:57 PM
Hi all, my "Catalina 34" logos on both sides had mostly broken off and only a few letters remained. My son took pity on me and designed and 3D printed replacements for me for Father's day. I'm sure the same has happened to many of you, so we'd be happy to send them to anyone that needs replacements and likes his design (unless the whole membership wants them!). I think they will fit in an envelope. They are definitely free, but if it arrives and you like them I guess you could paypal him a few dollars if you wanted to encourage him. PM me with your mailing address, or reply in this thread with any comments or suggestions. For those that are interested, he prints with PLA and these are 2-color (black letters on white background). We can just share the STL file if you know how to print or have one at your library.

He also made me a new cover for my ST4000+ autopilot a couple years ago after I had to replace the LCD. Fits great and seems to have held up perfectly in the sun here. Also willing to share those, but it won't fit in an envelope.

Love it! I've been wanting to do thet but afraid I might need it for the sleeping space at some point...

Hi Ron, I've seen that and it's a great idea, but what I meant was that i'd like a way to (quickly) have no table at all, not just a smaller one with the leaf down. I really like that solution, but it isn't quite what I'd like to do...

I agree, taking the table out makes it so roomy. I'd like an option for a faster way to put in a table without needing the pedestal.

Do you out all of the base screws back in to use it, or is it stable without?

I'm getting stir crazy waiting for spring and boating season. Was looking over pics from prior years and thought people might like the replacement dinette I made from a teak cutting board. I still keep the original in case we need to drop it for the bed.

Glenn- no I don't have a way to scan the frame unfortunately. If someone has object files I'd be happy to help with printing though.

I do a fair amount of 3D printing and I've made a few parts for my C34 (like a cover for the autohelm). How large is your print? If it fits in my printer I wouldn't mind trying to print it and mail it to you.

it's not clear to me from that description on the CD site (about non-rotating for rigid vangs) if this new casting is also appropriate for people who haven't upgraded to a rigid vang. I want to avoid the cotter pin shearing problem, so am I better off with the new casting, or trying to enlarge the cotter pin hole?
thanks

my PO had replaced this with a wing nut, which I was finding hard to tighten since the "wings" were small. I bought a "clamping knob" that was a perfect replacement on my 1986. It's stainless and much easier to turn. It also has the advantage of being round, so it doesn't hurt when I bump my head into it! That had caused a lot of pain a few times when I was working in the vberth area.
I got mine on Amazon - search there or elsewhere. The item is JW Winco Stainless Steel 303 Round Clamping Tapped Knob, Knurled, Threaded Through Hole, 5/16"-18 Thread Size x 1" Thread Depth, 1-1/2" Head Diameter

Hi Stu,
I was intrigued by your post and want to read more, but a forum search for "oil breather" only returned this post. Where could I find out more?
Thanks!
