Or go with the 8-plait rope that is easy to splice onto the chain and is also very limp so it lays down well.

Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul, I am still eager to buy your Selden sprit but may have missed your communication.   Thx D

My Maxwell windlass gypsy handles the 8-plait with no slippage and the splice was easy.

Or try the 8-plait rope that splices easily and lays down in the locker.

Unless the rig was changed on the way to becoming a Mark 2 I have an extra pair of spreaders.   Won't be home again until the end of March but of you aren't in rush I can measure them at that time.

We are traveling cross country, my best available excuse, and I forgot to include my email.  Dfloeter99@yahoo.com

Hi Paul, could send the price and a couple photos of the Selden sprit?

Yes it is wireless over radio frequencies.  It sounds like the next two posters did something very similar.

I agree with addition of a remote versus trying to mount another switch.  My remote came from China via Amazon and has worked flawlessly until I dove in to check the anchor with it still in my pocket.  Fortunately I had a backup.  These remotes are inexpensive enough that I now two backups on board.
That rather un-Catalina baseplate looks well made and helpful.
So Holger, good luck and once you get into it the job isn't too bad.

Mine was found on Amazon.  The quality was good enough.

A few years ago I did what Alex suggested. Only the largest piece needed replacing and looked like the example in the photo.  I did try to sand, bleach and otherwise try to save the original but the staining was too deep.  With double stick tape and a few clamps the old served as the pattern.  Being careful to line up the strips the results were great.  Good luck.

Our rudder stock has given us groans before. I lubed from above and that seemed to help.

Thanks for the info.  It'll be a few months before I get back on the boat but this looks like a great winter project.  Maybe even swap out the mounts while in there.  Happy cruising.

So this brings up a question. A few years ago I swapped our gearbox for the ZF12 and raised the engine accordingly.  The engine is now higher on the mount studs with more threads below than above.   I had wondered about the leverage on the mounts but opted to ignore that thought.   I suppose using the top end of the stud would and does allow excessive movement.  Maybe I should raise the mounts by shimming underneath.   So, should I?
