Main Message Board / Re: Leaking MkII Cabin Top Hand-Rail

I rebedded mine last year and the hand rails came up easily when the screws were out.    The phillips heads are larger than most and I ended up with a larger straight screw driver with a square shaft in the phillips head and a small crescent wrench for purchase.   A properly sized phillips screw driver  would have been better but I lacked one at the time.

While not sure if I mentioned it before but my remote cost $12.40 from Amazon and still operated at 425 feet away.
So far so good on this key fob sized remote but like Dave said, it saves trying to install a down button. I have been wondering if one day we'll find ourselves within 425' of another remote using the same frequency.

I'm afraid I do not recall the length of the run exactly but maybe around 30'?   The negative went from the ground buss at the battery bank along the starboard side and the positive wire I believe ran on port.   They are of similar length in spite of starting from different locations.
I was out at the boat earlier but it was raining so hard I could not shoot any p[ictures of the install.   I may have time tomorrow while sailing out into Lake Michigan.

I can shot a few later today.   The photos won't show the important part behind the panel but will at least show the fit.

Like Dave said it's a great replacement.  Mine came with the larger breaker and Maxwell recommended an increase in wire size from my original 4 gauge to 2 gauge.   Instead of swapping out the wires I added another 4 gauge run to both pos and neg resulting in a larger cross section that the single 2 gauge cable.    This is a bit of overkill but last week the windlass did not hesitate when pulling up the 33 pound hook, 20 feet of chain, a full load of clay and half of a tree.   I was so happy to not be pulling that load up by hand.

We just returned ourselves having had a short trip to Meldrum, S Benjamin and Long Point Cove. Hope your trip went well. We avoided all the rocks and had some great hikes and hill climbs.

Yeah, mine is horizontal in the locker. Talked to Maxwell and they recommend the RC8 and VW10 8 or 10 mm. Ordered the VW10-8mm this AM from defender with the wireless remote. Will install when back at end of month.
You will find the motor is larger in diameter with the corresponding hole pattern. Boring the larger hole was not overly difficult.  There is a Cat36 article that explains the process quite well that helped greatly in our install.

You are right, the sender is two wire I,apparently, mistakenly thought I could ground the sender and light up the idiot light at the panel. The alarm ceased functioning last year and that is also on my list.
Somehow in the process I tripped the mystery breaker.
I do, BTW, have the manual but couldn't find any reference to the breaker.

I just spent the last hour searching for the ignition push to reset breaker on this m35A with no luck.
This afternoon started with a goal of checking my engine gauges and alarms. When I shorted the oil sensor to the block and turned the key I heard a breaker pop and the panel went completely dead.  I traced the wires and cannot find the mysterious breaker. Where did Catalina hide this item?

We replaced our sails this year and have a main left over.   I bought this main from another member here a couple years ago and it served us well but the new quantum main is a bit better.  The sail was made for a standard rig Catalina 34, has the regular 2 reef points and logo.   The only issues are a bit of staining above the foot around a few small wear spots that are purely cosmetic.  I had a sailmaker check this out and he found it to be sound.   The sail can be shipped in a box and the battens shipped separately in a PVC tube. I paid $800 for the sail which was a bit high and I would be thrilled to get $500 from a needy sailor.

Any takers?

We changed the original maybe 20" long roller on this 1996 Mark 2 with a 30" roller direct from Garhauer.   I store a 15kg Rocna on the roller and needed the additional length to keep the sharp tip from destroying the gel coat below the rub rail.   The rode is never run over the roller from straight down from one of the bow cleats.   The system works so far.

How about $250 and I will split shipping.   If your anchor locker has the same configuration as later 34s, maybe look at a few photos of windlasss installations that can be found searching this site, it shouold work.   There should be a bumped out area on the starboard side resulting in a vertical surface right of center facing to the left.   It is in this surface that the windlass is mounted.    The earlier 34s possibly were not set up this way, I do not know.

It sure is and I am ready to deal!   We are leaving for a few weeks on a road trip to the desert on Saturday but I could easily ship it tomorrow.   That is probably too quick but the best I can do for a while.

Thanks for the input from our older and more experienced members.   As I said in the first post, we did have a 2" piece of memory foam with a cotton cover that was very comfortable.  Maybe it slept hot, never noticed, but it was heavy.   That was on our Cat 30 where we slept in the middle with the table down so usually moved it out of the way every day.  That does get old.   Having a fabric cover meant it did not stick to everything it touched.

I have finished a pair of standoff brackets for my new oil pump and will post a picture when it is fully plumbed in place.   Total cost for the pump, shut off valve and a couple brackets I can't use was about $110 delivered.
