Guys : I can assure you that WM has NOT paid a penny in dividends to their stock holders in the past 7-8 years!!
I surely think that the BOARD has received some hansom compensation for their "great" work!!

Not too sure why you want to do that??
Without a roller furling main, I tension the out haul on the main when I put it on in the spring and release the tension when I take the sail off in the fall ????

Tony : Don't worry about oil particales clogging the injectors.
I worry about the amount of oil that I capture in my home made filter collecting and clogging the intake manifold.   See my post above.

Cliff : You probably do not have a 4" cleanout on your aft tank (wasn't installed by the factory).  You don't need one as the aft tank drain is on the fwd bottom of the tank so that tank will completely empty and dry out!!
As far as the Lewmar hatches they are size #1 and Lewmar does not have "trim rings" anymore - someone mentioned Catalina Direct, so try them.  Others have made Teak trim rings.

The aft cabin hatches are Bomar and are still in production.

Dirt : You might also call Catalina Parts.  They were the ones that put on the original stripes!

Serge : I'm not familiar with your "solar stick", but you might look at the solar panels that attach to the life lines and can be raised or placed down vertical (when not in use).

Can : There is no acute turn or "suction" that dictates a wire reinforced hose.
As far as Stu's concern about chafing on the inside (unseen) possible hull chard's, here's what I did many years ago.  I took the 3/4" foam insulated split tubing and slid a 3/4 ft sleeve over both of the water hoses to protect them.
When I need to replace mine I'll use regular nylon reinforced heater hose that you can get at any automotive parts store!!

Guys : The problem that I was seeing was that the "little bitty 1 gal propane bottle" can not be expanded/enlarged as I did to a 12 lb. bottle (Projects) because the container is molded in and a larger size will not fit!!  That was 1 gal (4.5lbs) BEFORE the OPD device on the new bottles cut that capacity to 80%.
Cruisers like to carry more than 3.6lbs of propane!!!!!

Pierre : The stanchion fix has been post and written up a number of times.
Be prepared to remove the stanchion, check the hole as Jeff mentioned and maybe fill it with epoxy and redrill it out.
Then you can rebed it with polysulfide.  You'll have to let it dry and cure a day or two before you crank it down tight or the caulk will squirt out!

Ken : In the 1990 model C34, Catalina changed the standard transom to the the "dimpled"/"sugar scooped" transom.  In addition they also offered the "walk thru" transom as an option for a few more $$.  I've always thought that the dimpled transom was the "best of both worlds".
At least in the early walk thrus you had two almost unusable storage areas on either side (compared to the large storage of the standard transom).
Remember that Catalina usually starts to make the next years new model in the September before !!!

Evan : The luff length of my 150% Genoa is 46' 7 1/2" for a standard rig.
On the sheet line turning blocks, I use a separate swivelling block that I attach to the stern cleats with a caribener snap shackle.  When the spinnaker gets doused, the blocks are taken off the cleats.

Tony : For the past 30 years here's what I've done"
Take some light nylon line and make 3 or more turns around the boot to the spreader and the boot top & bottom to the shroud.  Tie each with a square knot and leave a 1/2 to 1 inch tail.  Then take white "liquid whip" and paint it on to the knot and tails.
Like I said it's worked perfectly for over 30 years and have never had one come loose or be flapping in the breeze!!

Main Message Board / Re: LED replacement for bulbs
April 03, 2008, 01:36:28 PM
Cliff : I'm really not interested in an LED for the steaming light, as by definition the engine is on and you don't need the amp savings of an LED.  Don't think that I've ever had to replace that one in 20 years!
On the deck light - I'm not too sure that an LED is going to be bright enough, although I'd sure like the extended life of an LED over a halogen bulb!!
I've replaced all of my interior festoon bulbs with LED festoon ones.  A few thoughts.

Craig : Right ON.  Edson started that they changed to stainless pins in 1989, but that does not mean that your 1989 doesn't have bronze pins.
To whit: Catalina must have had a box car full of the old wiring harnesses when they got rid of the ampmeter in the 1988 engine insturment panel that continued to be wired until 1992/3!!
