An old thread, but thought I would add the comment here in case someone searches for table wobble.  I have a 2005 MKII boat and the saloon table wobbled when we bought the lightly used boat in 2010.  Unlike others, it wasn't the pedestal flexing or a loose mounting base. 

It took me several years before I figured it out (I'm a little slow), but the problem turned out to be insufficient space between the mounting base and the hull.  The Forspar diagram shows it needs 5" of clearance.  When inserted, the pedestal would not fully seat into the base because it was (just barely) coming into contact with the hull.

I filed down the end of the pedestal on the outboard edge about 1/8" and now the pedestal seats correctly and the table is rock solid.  Alternately, I could have added a spacer between the base and the sole to raise up the table and pedestal so that it cleared.

Your choice of chain may be determined be the windlass gypsy, if you have one.

Although you may not need more rode for this event, longer may come in handy in the future -- stuff happens.

And another vote for 8 plait braid.

Normally I wouldn't post this in the Main Message Board, but I don't know how may people regularly look at the For Sale board and I'm running out of time.

I have a factory interspring mattress for a C34 MKII aft cabin that I'm looking for someone to take.  It's been stored in plastic since new and never used.  I'm losing my storage garage on Saturday 4/29, and will have to throw it away if no one wants it, which would be a waste.  There's been some interest, but no one has committed to taking it yet.

Unfortunately, it looks like the mattress does not fit a MK 1/1.5 boat.  Still available through 4/30.

I haven't been on a MK1.5 boat, but I would think they are comparable in size.  I measured the mattress this morning.  Since the shape is a little complicated, I diagrammed it out below. 

The mattress is about 6.5" thick.  It comes in two sections, with the seam running down the centerline.  The black numbers represent the size of the mattress on top.  The grey lines/numbers represent the size of the mattress on the bottom, as the starboard edge is angled to follow the curve of the hull.

Also, haven't seen this mentioned in another post, but the web server is not configured to use https/ssl.  This means login credentials and any other sensitive information are being transmitted in unencrypted plain text and can be intercepted.  The certificate for the server is invalid, which makes it possible to intercept traffic with a "man in the middle" attack.  Both of these configuration issues are particularly risky for the C34.org users who are accessing the site via an unsecured public wifi connection. 

Should be somewhere on the admin's "to-do" list.

I use the spinnaker halyard to load/unload our inflatable and a sit on top tandem kayak from the foredeck all the time.  But instead of using a winch, I fix the spinnaker just above head height and use a 4:1 lifting block set with a clam cleat to do the lifting.  Makes it easy to do it myself, as I can lift, lower, and guide from one spot.

Mine is a little different than the image below (garhauer, quick release shackle on bottom), but you get the idea.

Great site.  How long do you plan for the restoration?

For free:  practically new innerspring split mattress for C34 aft berth.  These came standard on our 2005 Mk II.  The original owner did not use the aft cabin and we've stored them in plastic in a closet/garage since we purchased the boat in 2010. 

I no longer have the ability to store them, and am not going to get a storage room just for the mattress, so looking for a good home.  Includes a set of never used fitted sheets.

If you are interested, let me know ASAP.  I'm moving on 4/30 and will have to toss them if no one wants them.

Located in Thousand Oaks, CA.  Too big to ship, but close to the LA, Ventura, and Santa Barbara harbors.

Just remember that some day you'll be selling this boat.  No aft cabin mattress could be a real deal breaker.

A good point Ken, and one that that made me stop to think.  But I'm not going to be using them anytime in the next 2-3 years and no longer have the ability to store them.

Our MkII boat came with the custom inter-spring two-part mattresses, but the aft cabin mattress was never used by the original owner (he used the V-berth and only used the boat as a floating apartment when in LA).  We also never used the aft cabin, except as an attic, and so the mattress has been siting in a closet wrapped in plastic the last 6 years.  To my knowledge, no one has ever slept on it.

My question for the group is:  assuming someone would be interested in this mattress, what is something like this worth?  I don't have any frame of reference.

+1 for Bar Keepers Friend for stainless and lifelines.  Generally, don't need a polish (abrasive) to clean stainless unless it's very bad, or wax for protection (chromium oxide layer does that).  Haven't tried Spotless Stainless, but it looks interesting for cleaning and passivating.
