Sailing Dream

This is just my opinion. We will see of others differ. I would still fill the tank after I added fuel. If you don't add fuel you run the risk and probability of condensation. Unless you feel you might want to empty the tank in the spring and then clean it. Definitely a good idea.

As for the starting issue. 20 seconds on the glow plugs in the summer is not abnormal in my experience.

Search this site for a solenoid project regarding the glow plugs. Another well worth it upgrade. If it is not already done.

Sailing Dream, What Kyle and Ted say is good advice. I would consider the following as well. Since you only have 3/4 of a tank. I would add the fuel treatment now. Don't be afraid to be very liberal with the amount. If you read the directions on the can you will find that there is no harm if you over do it a bit. After you have added the treatment go ahead and fill up the fuel tank with diesel. The sloshing that you will create in the tank when you add the 5 or 6 gallons should more that adequately mix the treatment in the fuel. It is not necessarily the cold weather that can do the harm. But the weather that we will get this weekend. Forcast to be about 12C by early next week. The change in temperature is prime condition for creating condensation. But if you fill the tank before the weather change there should be no problem.

113 days till launch.

Dan, I am 6'2". Like Wayne I look over the dodger. However if you go all the way and install a Bimini and connector panel. Remember to put in a window on the connector panel portion. Also make sure that it has a flap to close when you don't want the sun Velcro works great. The same thing goes for the Bimini portion. You want to see the windex from the helm seat.

When you replace the head. It is a great time to replace the black water hose to the holding tank. Also check the fresh water intake hoses at the point of clamping by the gear clamps. If there is any fracture of the hose at all. Replace it. I replaced the black water hose in about an hour. Use the newer type white hose that has a smooth wall inside. It made a big difference when we open the boat up after a week of peculating in the hot summer sun.

First of all congrats to you and your bank. More to you though.

Secondly, you are right, and no this is not a safe condition. There has to be a closed circut for you to get a reading like you are. I just want to caution you regarding the electric panel on your boat. I also have a 1990 that I purchased 4 years ago. One of my major disapointments with the boat was the quality of the DC wiring. While I think it was more a symptom of the time. Common as far as boat building went in that era. It was scary. I had switches that appeared off that were really on. etc.etc. I bit the bullet and ordered a new panel from Seaward. It was about a nine hour job to replace the panel. But well worth the effort. It looks outstanding as it is the same design as the new boats.

While I am not an electrician. .There are many on this board who can answer your questions a lot better than I can. But this is a no-brainer. A fire is certainly a possibility

Since then I have done a number of other upgrades all with the help of this board. It is one great asset. You will love the boat.

Welcome!

One alternative is to buy Teak Veneer and use contact cement to apply it to a standard piece of any good one side plywood. 1/4 of the cost. I purchased this when I made a new salon table.

Main Message Board / fresh water system winterizing
October 08, 2006, 04:15:24 AM
That time of year again. I searched the board but could not find exactly what I was looking for.

Here's the question. For many years I have circulated plumbing antifreeze in the water system to winterize. This did work but the taste and flushing in the spring is getting tiring. I talked to a buddy with another model and he just drains the lines. I imagine this would work for the Mk1.

Has anybody done this? Where do you think the lowest part of the system is? How do you manage to get all of the water out of the pump?

Thanks,

Mark

Guys

It will get the deck clean. But be very careful that you do not get a high pressure stream under any deck fittings etc. You will start a leak when you remove or loosen any sealants with such high pressure.

Ken, My strainer is attached directly to the suction end of the pump. This is via a pressed in fitting that is sealed with a 'O' ring and held in place with a plastic sliding locking tab that attaches the strainer to the pump. This is what I meant saying that the filter is specific to the pump. The other end is just attached to a 1/2" hose with a barb fitting and gear clamp.

Karista, I think mine is the same as yours. I will order a strainer for a Flo Jet pump.

Thanks to both of you.

Main Message Board / Fresh Water Inline Strainer

I am an hour away from the boat and have to ask if any of you can tell me what brand of pump is used for the fresh water on a 1990 version of the C-34. I searched but no luck. The in line strainer has broken and I thought I could repair it. But now I have found a source and fixing it no longer makes sense. The filter is specific to the pump. But I am not sure of the pump manufacturer. I think Flo-jet but I am not sure.

Many thanks,

Mark

I too have the compressor for the cold box in the port lazarette. I have always wanted to make better use of it and put in a shelf.  However, I am concerned about the required circulation for the compressor. The question is how much circulation is required? Can even a partial shelf be built in? Thoughts Anyone?

You have travelled the same path as many of us including me.
Just extend the hose from the cooler to the bilge bypassing the foot pump. The cooler/fridge will easily drain and the beverages will be ice cold. Nothing to it.

Great idea! :clap Allow me a few suggestions. As you are aware, most sailors in the area aspire to holiday in the North Channel of Lake Huron. Along with sailors from Georgian Bay, the invitation might be extended to those from Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. A possible location from Gore Bay/Benjamin Is. on the west too Killarney/Collins Inlet/Bad River on the east might suffice. My first mate and I hope  to be in the western end sometime in July. An early announced date might inspire the inclined to incorporate this rendezvous into the plans.

Any updates on the Tufted Topper?  Sleeping on the boat  is not the best experience. Any other ideas?  :sleepy:
