Mr. Hill,

I don't think I've seen that one...I imagine chasing 120V to it in an aesthetically pleasing way could be challenging...at the risk of hijacking a thread, a pic by chance??

Very nice work Kirk.  :clap

My "old Sherwood" is going to be worth a mint...museum quality, no doubt...  8)

I too still suffer from diesel heater envy. Our Canadian friends know what's up, no doubt. I long for a Chesapeake New Year's Eve...on the hook...in sock feet.

Diesel heater wasn't on the PHRF application...gotta be worth another 5, eh?

Main Message Board / PHRF and fixed prop...
March 23, 2011, 03:53:15 PM
Greetings all,

We're in the process of applying for 2011 PHRF rating as, at this point, it appears as though we are entering the 62nd Annual Down the Bay Race. The race is from Annapolis to Hampton...roughly 120 miles. PHRF of the Chesapeake has a "fixed prop rating credit form" and I'm all for credits. The race is in May...form submission is required 4 weeks ahead of any event. As the clock ticks and we're still in the water, would anybody by chance have easy access to the "XX" dimensions in the attached pdf document? Thanks in advance!

Chuck, there should be a humidity control option (HU) on your control unit? Are you cooling the aft cabin as well? The only humidity issues we have are when the Admiral sets the AC on 50 in mid August and the boat is so cold the windows begin to condensate...on the outside!

Very nice! It appears as though someone has taken the time to polish the mast below?

The PO installed ours under the V. The drawer is still there and functioning nicely. To me it seems like a great use of otherwise very difficult to access space. Duct runs (MK1) are obtainable for central air to the V, main salon and the aft cabin...works nicely. We have a 16000 BTU Cruisair unit...I will share that I've had less than stellar tech service from Cruisair, but the unit conditions the boat nicely...heat and AC. I've been contemplating the addition of a diesel heater for a couple years now...port lazarette install for the unit with the forced air "plumbed"in the opposite direction...

Kirk,

I'm sure Ron Hill will jump in to confirm, but in the meantime, I believe the prefered method is K50's in the front with K75's in the rear. If you have the $$'s left over, throw a Bullflex coupling behind it all for the most luxurious of rides... :D

Mike,

Rick Johnson put a V1 in a single door anchor locker (HN 1110)...

Scotty,

The V1 install has performed admirably for us...hands down the best upgrade I've embarked upon. If I had to do the project over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

QuoteI plan on putting my foot switches inside the locker (both on the starboard side so that I can have the port side closed for comfort and safety

Perfect plan. Offsetting the V1 slightly to stbd (aligned with the new bow roller) allows the port locker lid to be closed while operating the windlass. Great place to stand. I wanted separate up / down switches and had a hard time orienting them inside the locker where I thought they were comfortable/convenient to access. I couldn't get my foot in there. Pondering that dilemma for a couple days, I decided to put them by the toe rail...out of the way and easy access.

QuoteDo you by any chance have the dimensions that you gave your metal fabricator?  Did you by any chance draft it out, and have a copy of that draft?  If so, could you send it (them) to me?

I was the fabricator...and of course that would mean that I failed to document anything!  :cry4` The original template evolved from ever changing bits of cardboard and duct tape. I acquired some 1/8" stainless plate from the local machine shop and shaped it around the windlass dimensions, secondary anchor storage, washdown pump, etc. Are you going the stainless route or laying up a platform as Ron did?

I'll be visiting the boat over the weekend...I'll get you some dims...

I have the same issue on the stbd side. Could be age, could be davit/dink weight, could be that docking shouldn't be a contact sport (but sometimes is...especially with davits)...who knows? But while there is the cutting and welding of stainless going on, you may want to consider this...

QuoteI do have some younger crew members, and it looks like they would have an easier time steering from the elevated aft seat on the older model.

Cameron,

The "hump" seat performs very well for the older crew members as well! We graduated from a C25...tiller and all. Initially, I couldn't figure out why the C34 helm seat was coutoured until the first time we were heeling her nicely and I wanted to sit down!  8)

Later I learned with the autohelm, I could sit almost anywhere...

QuoteOn my 1987, hull 367, the areas of the deck that get a lot of wear from walking is starting to show fiberglass through the coating.

Ralph,

If I'm correctly thinkin' what your sayin', have a peek at this...

My understanding is there are a multitude of flexible molds available to match most non-skid patterns, certainly one to match ours. I suspect tinting the gel coat to match the existing gray color would be the most difficult part...  :think
