Paulus,

I've been contemplating diesel heaters for a couple years now myself. Seems to me the unit could be installed in the port lazarette. Drop a fuel line straight into the diesel tank below, tap into the existing duct lines (aft cabin, salon and V) and enjoy New Year's Eve on the hook!

Main Message Board / Mast boot is beat...

Guys and Susan... (had to do it...)

I'm not ready to pull the stick anytime soon so the one piece molded boot from Catalina Direct appears out of the question...anybody have a good, warm, fuzzy experience / recommended product for a replacement mast boot? Of course I'd love to hear the "what not to buy" stories too...

Regards!

We have forgone the macerator all together. We have a Y valve with direct overboard discharge plumbed in before the holding tank for the rare occasion (ok, the one occasion) that we are far enough offshore to discharge overboard legally. The macerator circuit has been re-routed to power the anchor locker wash down pump...but I keep forgetting to re-label it on the panel!

I'm relieved to report we found Sherpa yesterday contently dangling from two hooks...right where we left her on Friday! Fortunately, the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck areas didn't get the 7-11 feet of storm surge that was predicted...our marina would not have handled that well at all...

It looks more and more like there is a significant chance we could be getting a big one up the maw of the Chesapeake. I spoke with Boat US this morning and they relayed that, at this point, some areas are expected to see storm surge of 7-11 feet. To all of you east coast folks...make good decisions...lets keep our boats safe but the skippers safer...

Main Message Board / A welcome to all C355 skippers!

Greetings All...the annual Officer's Meeting was held in mid February and as you can see there are some new names on the Masthead. One of the more interesting topics of discussion was Catalina's new C355. At first glance, she looks an awful light like a C34.

Take a look at the specifications:
      C34      C355
LOA      35'8"      35'5"
Hull length   34'6"      34'6"
LWL      29'10"      30'2"
Beam      11'9"      12'0"
Displacement   12,550      14,800

Every C34 owner who has paid attention during a haul knows she is closer to 15-17k than 12.5. We are told the sailing qualities / sea kindliness are appreciable and due to the circumstances, we're ok with that as it is tough to find a C355 for a sea trial on the Chesapeake in February! Needless to say, the similarities are notable.  If you get down to electrical and mechanical...sure, the systems are comprised of different components, but the systems overall are fundamentally the same.

Eventually, the conversation evolved into the possibility of receiving new C355 owners into the C34IA fold. These folks would probably appreciate a place to find tech/maintenance support and generally chat up all there is to owning, enjoying  and maintaining their new C355. The C36IA has embarked on a similar path with the C375 and I understand it has been quite a success. To all of you C355 owners, on behalf of the C34IA, please consider this a formal invitation to join us. Association Officers' contact info is listed above...pick one and drop us a line...just don't ask us which end is the front of your Yanmar...

When you create your profile for the forum, please identify yourself as a C355 owner and include your hull number. Again, welcome aboard...we look forward to hearing from you!

Kevin,

I'm told perhaps the most notable difference between the fuel dock and the truck stop is high sulfur (off road) vs. low sulfur (over the road) diesel. Your auxillary would much prefer the added lubricity of the off road diesel. Wait a minute...can you guys still get the good diesel in California or does one have to go to Mexico??  :D

Hello Tom,

Call Sure Marine Service @ 206.784.9903 and ask for Todd. The man is a Seaward stove Guru. I'd wager he has the knobs as a shelf item and will ship the same day...

Susan...Allegro is simply beautiful. You have been an absolute pleasure to interact with on the MB over the years...best of luck to you!

ps. When Allegro sells, please occasionally haunt the MB so Ron will have to continue to start his posts with "Guys and Susan"...  :D

Peyton,

As of last week, tractorsmart was not gone. I ordered a new water pump, fuel injectors, thermostat and gaskets for all from them last Tuesday...UPS delivered the stuff on Thursday and after a weekend very much lacking in the sleep department, the auxillary was happier than she has been since I've owned her!

Try that URL again dude...or call 'em up at 717.450.1250

lazybone...I just wrapped up that project this weekend. I purchased this kit from Defender and it worked out nicely.

http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|311|302333&id=96141

The quantitiy of insulation and adhesive was perfect but I did run a bit short on the foil tape. Additionally, I did not use the mechanical fasteners from the kit...mostly 'cause they were NAILS...

Serge...this is a tough one to weigh in on, but my experience has been once any tube has been bent, there now exists a significant weak point. Bending it back while in place would be darn near impossible. Of all the things on your boat you want to be able to depend on, the rudder post would rank very high. At a minimum, I would drop the rudder and investigate further. Sorry in advance for the bum opinion, but I couldn't trust it, even if she did sail straight...

Main Message Board / Re: Stern Railing

QuoteThe other option is to add vertical support tubes to each side of the gate, then remove the center cross rail and cap the newly exposed ends.  In either case it is much easier if the welder can tack the new pieces in place prior to removing the rails for the final welding/polishing

Ken speaks the truth. He witnessed this modification recently first hand...on my stern. My stbd stanchion base was cracked as well, so it was a prime opportunity to make the mod. A variation of what Phil said, connect the wire to a fish tape or coat hanger after you cut it (I had plenty of slack wire in the lazarette behind the engine panel) , push it a fair piece up the rail away from the welding. Pull it back down when you're done.

I'm tickled with the modification. The swim ladder now folds properly into the pushpit. MK1 owners know that horizontal rail is a PITA when accessing the swim ladder...I suppose I now have a MK 1.10
