My experience with Protech ans Stewart was good as well last year. I had then recut and install lifeline gates amidships last year. Best modification to keep the Admiral happy!

Our practice is to drill through the solid strut and attach a #3, the sand dollar type. They will show wear after one year.  I also replace yearly the two on the shaft. Make sure you have at least 6" between cutlass bearing and the zinc to allow a good flow of water into the bearing. Give these zincs a good whack to ensure proper contact. There is also a tendency to over zinc which can create it's own problems.

We have our TV on that shelf.  I was thinking of putting it in the aft cabin, but require a microwave 16 inches or less.  How wide is your microwave?

Need advise on where to get a microwave no larger than 16 inches wide.  Also advise on where to install or place microwave on a 2004 34.

Main Message Board / BENETEAU 34 VANCOUVER BOAT SHOW
February 07, 2009, 04:44:50 PM
This boat without a heater and dodger was on special for US$165,000. Add another 25% for Canadian funds and another 12% in taxes.  I saw this boat on February 4. Went back yesterday with the Admiral and one of the hinges for the cabinet door under the head sink was already broken. They are using bronze thru hulls rather than Marlon and when you lift the engine compartment cover, the first thing you have to hurdle to get at the engine is two batteries without any type of cover. I can just see dropping a wrench and watching the sparks fly. And a cast iron keel?
Style but no substance.
Like Charlie Chan said.."Your Beneteau like dead fish...cannot stand test of time!
The dealer is dual Beneteau and Catalina. The fact that no new Catalinas were in the show indicates they are more motivated to sell the Beneteaus.

Our Vancouver boat show starts in a couple of days. Local Catalina dealer has pre boat show pricing specials as follows:
Catalina 28  $94,900        New 2009 price $148,638
Catalina 309 $114,900     New 2009 price $167,889
Catalina 320 $134,900      New 2009 price $203,339

Pretty ridiculous given the state of the economy!

I suggest you name the vessel " KWITYERBITCHIN' "

Boats are probably the most expensive things most people buy next to their residence. Due diligence is the normal procedure.

I'd contact the marina and see if you can moor your 34 in your present slip. Good luck!

Up in this part of the country, you line up moorage first, and then buy your boat!

I read this and other Catalina forums long before we bought ours new in 2004.

You actually have the perfect boat - you just have to change and adapt to it!

If you want to plan for every contingency, you will never leave port. Pass on the drivesaver and go with a PSS seal with the vented version.
Works great and no problems after 4 years.

If the engine is warm, forget the glow plug and just hit the starter. If the engine is cold, hold the key for 10 seconds, release, and then hit the starter. Do not heat the glow plugs while starting because you want all battery power for the starting procedure. You do not have to move the throttle control at all. Your rpm should be around 900 to 1200. If you are connected to shore power you will notice that the tach will not register until your 110 breaker is off or shore power is disconected. I have a 2004 and your instructions are not in my manual. Suggest you obtain owners manual from Universal.
One thing you should know is check the zinc on the heat exchanger yearly. Stock zinc is too long. Buy your OEM anode, cut
1/4" off the zinc or it will break off when inserted and tightened. Change your primary RACOR with a 30 micron yearly as well as your secondary filter.

Main Message Board / INSTALLING RADAR TOWER ON 2004 MK II
December 22, 2008, 03:34:26 PM
Has anyone completed this project on their boat? Your thoughts and sugestions would be appreciated. I am loooking to do a Raymarine C SERIES with a  18" radome. I do not want the radome on the mast or attached to the backstay. I understand Garhauer makes these towers. Any installation tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, you can always take it out of the package and blow it up. Oh sorry, I thought it was "rubber"!
My apologies, must be this strong Canadian beer affecting my eyesight!

We had a simple two part  made from Sunbrella when our 2004 was commisioned. It has two snaps at the top corners which go on the cabin slider and two at the bottom attached below the hatchway. It covers the complete hatchway (boards and metal strips)and has mosquitoe netting sewn in. This is covered by a full Sunbrella cover when the netting is not in use. When you want netting and ventilation you just roll up the outside cover and tie it to two affixed Sunbrella straps. We also put in a zipper at the bottom so you can close the two bottom snaps for a complete seal. We have used this from day one and it is a permanent fixture. It also preserves the teak hatchboards year round from the elements!  It is still in perfect shape.
