Main Message Board / LINKLITE "GOTCHA" SYNDROME
May 28, 2012, 11:39:19 AM
Stu, I appreciated the extensive comments covering the above condition. I will reset the default parameters on my recently installed Linklite asap. I have 4 Trojans total 450 amps, one deep cycle starting battery, magnum 2000 charger/inverter with magnum remote control.

I have noticed a recent condition whereby the monitor is flashing "synchronization". I do a manual synchro and the message disappears only to reappear a few minutes later. It seems this has started since I turned on both my Nova Kool fridge and my stand alone Nova Kool freezer while being plugged into shore power.

Can I safely assume this is due to the "gotcha" phenomenon and will disappear once I reset the 15V and 1% parameters?

Thanks

Main Message Board / CATALINA 355 PROS CONS ISSUES
August 10, 2011, 06:43:29 AM
Trust some 355 owners are on this site. We are considering a 355 as a replacement for our 2004 MKII which we sold last year.
The 355 has lots of sizzle and adressed many issues we found lacking but certainly correctable in the 34. We lament selling our 34 but as they said in the Godfather, we received an offer we couldn't refuse. In retrospect, it was a wise decision given todays used boat prices.

Tell me what you like, dislike and improvements made. Any warranty issues or gremlins?

Much appreciated.

What has been your experience with these Finnish heaters if you have installed them in your boat.
Thanks

We just completed a 14 day repositioning cruise on Independence of the Seas which left Fort Lauderdale around April 10. A few days out we had 83 knots of apparent wind just off the bow and 16 foot seas. This was no big deal for a 120,000 ton ship with stabilizers. Russian roulette anyone?

A buddy is looking at used sailboats in the 32 to 34 range. There is a 2005 C34 with 15 hours on the market. The boat has not been used and I feel this is worse than being used too much. If it is not used then it is not well maintained. What problems can be lurking within the beast? I would want to see service records detailing oil changes, zinc replacements (HX and prop shaft) et cetera. Comments?

The Canadian dollar has lost about 7cents in the past month. Coupled with transport costs, reriggging and buying away from home, my local broker says this is having a cooling effect on Canadian buyers. And if you want to finance a boat over 10 years old you better have equity in your house as they will not take the boat. Moorage is scarce and if you can supply moorage with your local boat you have a strong advantage in capturing the buyer.

I drilled a very small hole at the bottom of the tach - problem solved and no, water does not seep in!

There was a 34 Benetoy at the Vancouver Boat Show last year. After 3 days the the hinge on the fiberglass door to access the area under the head sink was already broken!

Seem to remember the  batteries were placed directly in front of the engine with no covers on them. Just imagine dropping a metal tool and having to stretch another extra foot.

IMO a POS!

Hi Roc, i am looking to replace my 6 year old Exides and would like to know what brand you installed. Did they fit into the existing space and did you have any height issues?
Anybody with a MKII do anything similar?
Thanks

We have a 2004 #1678 with a M35B. We took out the boat yesterday for a couple of hours of motoring to calibrate new radar. On the way back I started to hear a very intermittent low volume buzzing sound from the alarm when at cruising speed, about 2600 rpm. The water temp and oil were fine. Engine ran great. Back at the dock I shut the motor down and got a good tone from the alarm before restarting and stopping. Seems everything is OK other than this new irritant. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?
