Main Message Board / Re: C355 Photos

Wow, lots of hate for the 355.  When I first saw it I was thrilled that they replaced the 350 with what appears to be an improved 34.  Aside from the modern art sink and the strange protuberances aft of the helm, it looks like a hell of a boat.

I called the factory yesterday and found out it actually has standing headroom (6'9")!  I also love the taller lifelines (whoever thought 24" lifelines were a good idea?), the water-tight bulkhead, larger tanks, heavier displacement and "ocean" hatches.

I love my 34, but everything I'd change about it has been corrected on the 355.  I just need to win the lottery now. . .

Catalina Yachts web site:  The 350 is gone, replace by the 355.  The 320 MkII is still there.

I saw that -- good news!  I keep checking for more info daily. :-)

You can also mix colors.  I use West Marine CPP, and mix blue and black.  Every time I paint I increase the portion of black to darken the color and distinguish between coats.

If you're looking for a simple, cost-effective replacement, I recommend a Campbell Sailor prop.  They have less drag than a standard 3 blade prop, but all the of the power.  I have been happy with mine.  That said, if money were no object, I'd have looked into a feathering prop.

We have a medium sized dog, a Siberian Husky, who does great!  She doesn't like swimming, but sailing is just fine by her.

Ron,

The 350 MkII came out 5 years ago if memory serves.  In my opinion, the 375 was the replacement for the 350 (13ft beam and forward head) while the 355 is more of a replacement for the 34 (12ft beam and aft head).

Roc, I think the 355 design shows the exact opposite.  Catalina looks to be targeting the serious (family) sailor who wants a good value.  By dropping the 350 they are moving away from the condo concept.

I agree it's not a lot, but C34s never came with more than 30hp.   Mine has 23hp and is adequate.  29hp should push the 355 to hull speed if needed and cruise at 6.5kts while sipping fuel.  I like the choice.

I'm liking the taller lifelines and the water-tight bulkhead too.  I'm going to have to find a way to pay off my C34 faster than 2021.   I don't know if I can wait that long!  I really like what I see of this new boat.

Info on the new 355 is starting to pop up on the web.  Here's a listing from a dealer that just couldn't wait until the details were finalized:

http://uk.yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatMergedDetails.jsp?boat_id=2001277&ybw=&units=Meters&currency=GBP&access=Public&listing_id=12184&url=

If the information in the listing is at all accurate, and if it has 2 meters of headroom, I am very interested.  I just hope the inflated "sailaway" price is due to the UK listing (or to the cost of being first in line).

If it's got the interior layout of a 34 and the lines of the 445, I'll start saving!  I should be able to afford it in 2021...

You mean 445, right? ;-)

Any details?

Thanks, Craig!  They have been offering decent headroom in their newer models (350 and 375 for example).  Hears to hoping the new boat has standing headroom (6'7"+), and bunks to match. :-)

I'd like to see a 345 -- a beefed up 34 (or slimmed down 350) with the head aft.

I installed a Norcold AC\DC, fits perfectly and has run flawlessly.
