Main Message Board / Hot water heater problem?
June 09, 2008, 02:56:44 PM
I feel like I have asked this before (last season?); but here it is again.  The engine runs fine, hoses running into the hot water heater get hot but no hot water; a nice stream of water from the tap but alas not heated at all.  :clap
Obviously the hot water is running thru the hot water heater well; its been burped, checked etc. The fresh water runs thru fine. Any thoughts or ideas? Toss out the old hot water heater (a pain to get out ) and start from scratch? Thanks

Mine is the fin keel. There a lot of nice combo units out there; deck light/steaming light. I assume your boat was trucked not sailed from Fla to Canada?

And while you have the mast down, check the rigging, new spreader boots. I got a new Hella LED anchor light and just replaced the bulbs on the Forespar steaming/deck light. I see you have 1019. I have 1022. Is your tall rig? Swim platform but no walkthru? Good luck

I take it these are not holding plate units. I installed an Isotherm holding plate refrig that runs off the batteries. It is slow to cool and I usually start it with a bag of ice but such units tend to be very reliable.

Main Message Board / Berth dimensions

Could bow berth, at its widest, really be 86" as someone measured it? I wanted to get a topper from Overstock. com but thats wider than a King. Unfortunately I live approx 200 miles from the boat or I could run out and measure it.

I tried the few capfuls of bleach last season and it did not help at all. I don't use the water completely since we do a lot of day sailing. Perhaps the best idea is to keep the tanks empty except on  trips. Of course, its nice to have some fresh water available

Now that I have cleaned he fresh water  tanks, filters and got rid of the algae, whats the best preventative for reoccurance

I will take the suggestion. Thanks

They are transducer wires for the boat speed indicator and they hang without any tension.

I was told that you cannot use the Speedseal on that installation but you should ask. I have a box wrench at the ready in case I ever needed a quick change but it is a pain in the butt. I asked a Universal dealer about it at a boat show and he did not have much to say. You can replace the pump with a an Oberdorf or is it Oberdorfer and it has a plate with foward facing screws.

I am convinced !! Catalinas do come from the factory with them on, however............no?

That makes me feel alot better.  I just wanted to be sure that it was not structural

Here is a photo that you requested.

I have a lot of hairline cracks along horozontal of toe rail running along port side only. Most are just spider-like cracks but in one place it does look like the gel coat is lifting off. Whats the best simple fix, if any?

Main Message Board / Turnbuckle covers

Finally removed my old plastic ones when I put the mast back up. The issue is whether to forget them altogether or put on the stainless, alum, plastic or leather ones. I sent the Garhaure SS ones back since they were too short and did not cover the studs. The riggers don't seem to like them at all since they cover the turnbackles allowing bad things to happen in the wet dark. They look nice but properly placed pins eliminate snagging anyway. What are people's thoughts and does anyone like the polyester or leather ones that do not require removal of the newly tuned turnbuckles? Thanks
