Stu is right, same thing happened to me, it was the switch, actually all my gauges acted jerky all summer, one day I pushed the button and nothing happened, had to bypass the switch to start engine while on the hook, new switch 10 years ago, about 14 bucks at the time, problem solved, steady gauge readings too.

I liked it, kind of fun to see another 34 out there doing it.  Heard so much about SnapDragon, was fun to see it in action, Ya I know it is a different owner now, and I followed his many improvements, from new engine to rear berth mattress, but was fun to see, saw the spice rack above the stove, gonna put one in now, thanks.  Maybe we should have more of our members post a few "just for fun" short videos, fun to see how the other guy does it in action in addition to project pictures.  splash in two weeks, can't wait, that video fired me up

Wow Noah, what a great job..in your bottom picture I noticed your 120 wiring, trying to get my head wrapped around the green wire thing, does all your green wires for your ac appliances go to that bus bar and does another wire go  from that bus bar to a ground,  like on the engine?  From what I hear,  the white wire and ground wire should never connect on a boat, (unlike a house). but on a boat, the dc ground and AC green wire ground should connect, like on a engine bolt.  Been studying this awhile, will be going to my boat next month and will see how it is wired, (I got a slight jolt on my boat once, grabbed the back stay and foot touched the water) reason for my inquire,  Thanks Noah, looks really good, not like the rats nest I got

Noah, Did you run a bundle of  wires from your distribution panel to your pedestal for this? I mean can you still access your lights from your nav station?  very nicely done by the way

Thank you Ed, very informative, what I was looking for, I have the festoon bulbs in my salon slider lights, am interested in the dim/bright configuration, do you not have the festoon stock slider lights? or was that a different light on a 86 versus my 88. also my lights in the v berth are sealed behind the lens, not sure if I can change those bulbs, the fixture is so nice I hate to swap it out for the little I use it. Thanks again Ed

beautiful Job Noah, Thank you, I take it those are 12 volt fixtures in the ceiling?, I'm having a little trouble finding a 12 volt under cabinet fixture for above the stove refrigerator, lots of them out there but can't seem to find one with its own switch, would like to replace the two florescents I have there now from my "last" upgrade.

Going to love following your project, Just curious, but why did you feel like you had to change your transmission, was it slipping? or clunking or leaking?

Not even sure how to reply to a post like that, my heart goes out to you for sure, makes me want to run to my the boat and see how it's doing, please keep us posted on how you make out

Thank you all, I have replaced the over sink fixture with a red/white light, and the one in the bathroom with the same, the rear berth I installed a led reading light, left the other two stock lights alone but would like to get led bulbs for those as well, I really want to replace the 8 festoon lights in the salon.  Probably leave the v berth alone, don't go up there much.

Also would like to install a couple overhead 120 volt lights in the salon, boat seems kinda dark and dingy at night when my family is up playing board games in the slip

Sitting here in the winter thinking of summer boat projects:  would like to replace my cabin salon lights with LED's, I've done some conversions but focusing on the slider festoon bulb fixtures, looks like they are 42 mm bulbs, I've searched the archives but they are mostly older posts and techy stuff change rapidly these days.  On the internet they go from 50 cents to 15 dollars apiece, need 8 of them, any recent advice would be appreciated or recommendations on what kind and where to get these, I think Stu recommended the soft white.  Thank you

I hear ya Ken, ya never know, like Capt Ron says, "if it's  gonna happen, it'l happen out there", when I put my impeller back in the engine, I'm gonna leave the circa clip off too.as that will only fail coming into traffic.  Probably a ton of other fire drill items some of us are not aware of on our boats until its too late in a emergency

just curious, how often do you use your manual bilge pump, I check mine once in a while, but I have to put water in the bilge to do it, and if anything like a piece of cellophane got on your screen couldn't you just take it off?  I get it.. being ready for that big emergency, all that being said, I don't have anything on my hose, just figured that what small piece of debris  that could get into my bilge could be pumped through

about ten years ago a taller boat 3 slips from me got hit by lightning and it took out my on board charger, didn't affect the two boats between us that weren't plugged in, I tend to unplug the boat when i leave now. not always, but I do think back to that day.  everyone on my dock chastise me for it but I'm the only mast on my dock, rest are power boaters, they may be thanking me one day, lots of lightning up here in lake superior

never know whats going to happen on your boat with guests aboard, the music was too loud in the cockpit and I asked my brother to go below and turn the radio down, told him to turn the big knob on the radio, (volume control) which was located above the nav station, he came back up and the music was still loud and because we were on a boat he didn't understand and turned the 1-2-both switch, he is not a stupid person, just confused on a boat.  didn't hurt anything but I wired my alt output to the battery right away.  Always get ready for the helpful new guy.  :)
