George, I will take some pictures this weekend.  Basically, yes, take the bag to the front, hoist, run sheets.  Sheets are "fixed" on a 8' piece of spectra with a loop at both ends.  I can take them off, but don't need too.  I also have a small sprit that rests in the in anchor roller to extend the tack out about 12".  I found that it was too short with the stock Catalina bow pulpit.  I could not simply pull the sheet to unfurl the sail.  A couple of "reverse" tugs on the furler exposed enough sail to then let it come out/clear the pulpit.  Next step is to build an 18" sprit or bend the pulpit down and out of the way.  I did not have to extend the crane, but I like that idea as then I might not have to bend the pulpit?  Mine is cut for more of a reacher.  Anything above 130, I drop the halyard about 6" to let it project more in front.  Selden makes an adjustable tack, which can be added after, which I might do, but the halyard ease is working.  The big thing was remembering to set it up to gybe on the outside and then remembering to do it.  I found since I couldn't remember all the time, it was so much faster to pull the furler 7-10 to partial furl, gybe and then unfurl.  It was speedy and controlled.  Joel

replaced the 4000 with an evolution and love it.  Super quiet compared to the 4000 I had.  Once I downloaded the correct manual, it took 45 minutes to install.  Wait for Defender to have the sale in the spring and get one.  I was able to couple with another rebate and got another couple hundred off, which was nice.

There are two PSIs 3000 and 3600.  You would need to check your tank (probably 3000) and buy the matching adapter.  Stations usually have both pressures, and the connections are different with 3600 being more for the car and 3000 for cooking.  Looking at the picture, that looks like what it is, two different adapters.

I put one of my a-sails on a Selden GX10 and absolutely love it.  Makes racing and short handing off sailing a breeze.  I also added new spin sheets for it, bridle style, so that it rolls all up together.  I went with Selden because of other bits of theirs that I have used and the price was right as well.

Steve, it has been 3 years since you did this.  Are you still happy with the Beta?  I am in the process of repowering and I really don't want a third Universal.  I have seen where others including you have gone Beta 25 and liked them, but then it has been quiet for a bit.  If you are still reading these forums, any additional history/thoughts are welcome.  Thanks, Joel

Sorry for the delay, looks like my SPAM filter was working overtime blocking updates/message notifications.  Please e-mail me @ kar.joel@gmail.com if you don't hear from me.  I will now try to answer what I have been messaged.

Clutches, the double remains.  Here are some pictures attached, hopefully. $50 with shipping?

North made the Dacron sails, I will double check shipping, but it will probably be expensive.  I will also get some pictures.

UK made the Tape Drives.  I will try and pull them out and take some pictures this weekend and post.  Thanks, Joel

Std rig measurements, 87 vintage.

3 sets, 1 Dacron and  2 UK Tape Drive.  I can get hard dates, but the tape drives are 2002 and 2006, Dacron 1999?  All good condition for cruising.  The Tape Drives could be "club racing".  I tend to replace every 5 years.  Carbon Fiber Asym "sprit" (goes in bow roller and extends 12" in front of bow to extend tack".  Clutches, double and a single Lewmar.  Random blocks.  LED cabin lights (red and white, t-wedge and twist).  Old halyards.

The sails I would like $250 for the Dacron set, $500 for the Tape Drives.  All are 155% Genoas.  The Dacron main is full batten.  Delivery within 2hrs of Detroit can be included, or I have family in Chicago, so if you are along I-94 or close, we could work something out.  The rest I can ship.  Send me questions and I can send you answers/pictures.  Joel

First, I searched and read the exhaustive thread on the Xantrex.  This is not about that.  My question is userfeedback based.  Thanks.

I am replacing the 20+ year old "Promariner".  In researching, I came across the PD2120 Inteli-Power by Progressive Dynamics.  It looks like it will fit the bill.  Has anyone seen one in person?  Using one currently?  This is what I am looking for:

1, Three (this has 4, one called storage) stage full automatic, I don't want my new batteries cooked.  I did get 7 years out of the previous ones, but I think I killed them last summer.
2, reliable
3, not junk, see 2

For me I think it is almost a done deal, but will take comments.  I really like that is is made in the USA, in MI in fact.  If I have an issue, I will drive it over and wait until it is fixed :-)

The 20amp might seem small, but I am always near shore power when there is extended depletion and will mainly use it to charge 2 T105's in series.

The "storage" mode has me intrigued as well as the variable fan.  So, does anyone have one?  Thanks, Joel

OK, so how did the winter project go with making an new wood table?  I am going crazy in the snow and running out of projects.  I tried to fly this one past the budget department, but didn't have traction as she couldn't see "how that is any better then what you have now".  So I was forced to retreat.  If you have an updated picture, that would help my cause :-)  Also, what do you think about selling a 12" clamp (I can cut it down but don't have access to the right equipment)?

The MakerBot doesn't have a big enough plate to do it in one piece, that is why I was wondering if a two piece solution would be acceptable to the masses.  They are coming out with a large form in the spring, but at double the price of the current model.  The fun thing with the 3D printer is using the "wood" filament.  Depending on the temperature you set it at, you can make a darn good looking piece of teak.

So Lewmar is not making them and Catalina direct is out.  Some folks have painted them.  I have a bunch that are cracked and yellow.  I have been toying with the idea of making a prototype and shopping it to a CNC shop to replicate.  I have also thought about making a two piece out of HDPE or PLA and then a little glue to assemble.  The question I have is, how much is a reasonable price for a new trim ring?  $10? $15? $20? (60-120 for a set) Would it be better for a one piece or would a two piece be OK?  These would be more solid than the originals, filling in the void with material.  A little velcro or my new favorite Sugru for a permanent fix.  The more interest, the cheaper it becomes.  I have also looked into colors and other materials, so if you wanted real teak or a plastic teak, that could be a possibility.  Let me know.  Thanks, Joel

There is a rechargeable battery in that as well.  I am assuming that you have supplied it with 12v power and it is charged fully?  That error indicates that, but as you say, Raymarine is pretty much useless on these devices, even though they have basically just rebranded them and jacked the prices up and cut service.  I can't even find anything on Ebay anymore that is less than retail!  The documentation always was lacking, but at least before you could call and get a straight answer.

Gorgeous!  You should copyright that design before I make one.  Better yet, if you take the time and list the parts and cuts, you can license it.  I will pay for that.  Even better, I will buy your protype if you decide to redo!  I have been looking for a better table forever.  I finally just made a smaller table a few years ago, but it is a pain to undo to put old one in for sleeping.  With this one, I can envision unbolting without too much effort and, I now think I have an idea of how to make a frame work for temp sleeping as well, thanks!  The slides, you lifted the mast and put them in from the bottom or did you notch the track somewhere?  Joel
