Thank you all, I will use Lime-away and look at the tech article on repacking. Thank you all!

I am getting into the boat and trying to address some issues that I know I should have paid more attention to in the past couple of years but the simply I can not change what I should have done only accept responsibility for it and move forward - right?

I am looking at the shaft and stuffing box (repacking the box was on my list) but as I see the shaft I am concerned about this white build-up on the shaft.  I have not had a chance to actually handle it but will be doing that this weekend.  My question to the community is how bad is do you think?  I am not experienced with the drive train and the boat is in the water so if I need to replace it I would need to pull her

I have read through some of the threads but do not see any that relate to what I am seeing (Sorry if I missed something) so I am hoping for a little support from the community and some honest thoughts about how bad this appears.

ahhh, just as I feared, thank you for the quick response.  Also thanks for the advice on the wife, it is probably the most applicable bit of advice I have gotten for most of my projects.

All looking to source the local wisdom of the group.

I have come by a new to me slightly used Genoa that came off a C34 mk1 just a few boats after mine in production order but it appears that the length of furlers were not the same on our two boats.  I raised the sail only to find that I am about 6" to a foot off.  I will verify my sail area today.

What I am curious about is if I have any adjustment I can make in my system to either lower the drum or take or some at the top with the swivel? I am hoping to avoid having to cut the sail since that would (combined with the cost of the sail) put me into a place where I could have reached to a new genoa - need to save face with the spouse - I am sure a few of you know the drill. :)

Thanks in advance, John

I just undertook that same task this winter with my 1988 (hull # 738).  It was very time consuming but I came out the other side with a pretty solid sole.  On the core, I used an Airtex product that is lighter than replacing with plywood which I am pretty happy with.  I have some pictures and some lessons learned if you want to hear.  Maybe more of a conversation.

I'm located in Annapolis if you are nearby. Or DM me

Just curious if these are still for sale?

Just moved our Catalina to Annapolis and one broke in transit.
