Main Message Board / Looking for info fridge top hinges
January 16, 2024, 11:44:37 AM
I have been searching the forum and tech notes to find any info on adding hinges to the fridge cover.  I pretty sure I have seen it but cannot find it.  Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I bought Monofilament Fishing Leader Kit 100yds 2.4mm-600lb Clear off Amazon and it works perfectly.  I switch it about every 3 years.  I am switching the halyard and loop line next week as the loop line is finally worn enough that it is time.

Main Message Board / Re: Knob for Windlass Circuit Breaker

Jim, it looks like I have found a good solution.  I hunted around for a salvaged boat to no avail.  I was able to order two slightly larger SS knurled knob blanks from McMaster Carr and am going to have a machine shop drill and tap them.  The knobs were $11 each and it is a machine shop I have used before so reasonable cost.  Based on my research the threads are 6/32 and I will confirm that next week when I am at the boat. Once I am reread your glad to have two done for you at the same time. I suspect not a huge cost difference to drill & tap 4 versus 2.  The McMaster Carr part number is SSK-150.  They distribute for the company who makes it below.

Main Message Board / Knob for Windlass Circuit Breaker
September 14, 2021, 05:42:48 PM
On our Catalina trip a couple of weeks ago as I was pulling the breaker to energize the windlass the knob pulled off in my hand.  The knob is plastic and the threads finally just gave out.  This breaker is obsolete and Catalina Direct is out of stock.  The upgrade requires 2 new breakers and a new control panel all costing around $450 plus for just a plastic knob replacement.   Somewhere after my 2000 or around that time Catalina switched to a aluminum knob and it is much sturdier.

So I am looking to see if anyone has either one of these circuit breaker knobs (plastic or Aluminum), has sourced a replacement or knows of one of the salvage yards in the southeast that I can call to see if they have one or two of them.  I am also checking with Maxwell as they have one that looks identical and checking Klixon who I believe manufactured the breaker and still makes an 80A version.  Trying numerous sources.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I drilled new holes in the bottom of the base and used a fish tape to put a string line in place.  every time i run a new line i run a new fish line so there is always a line for the next time.  Did it in both directions forward and aft so i can go either direction.

We store our 2000 in the port side locker.  I found a plastic bin that it fits perfectly in and then just slide it forward and out of the way.  Been doing it now for 9 years with no issues.

Main Message Board / Upgrading the Alternator
April 12, 2021, 09:43:02 AM
I am upgrading the alternator on Hakuna Matata.  I bought the upgrade from Maine Sail and can't wait to get it installed.  But I am brain dead on the wiring.  I do not want to pull it apart as it works now and the normal rule is do not touch it if it is working.  As I look at the connections my mind looses it and I am not sure anymore what goes where.  I am looking to the experts here to help me understand what wires on the old 54A Mando unit go where on the new 74A unit.  I have attached the picture of each one so maybe someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

We have a Dometic CX35.  It works awesome.  Stored in aft cabin and we added the extra insulation jacket.  It draws very little power and we run it at 7° to keep ice cream for the admiral. We would have gone bigger but the 16.5" width on the door to aft cabin was limiting factor.

All, thanks for the help and info.  I found what I needed with a 90A internally regulated alternator (100-600), adapter bushing (118-2 ) and pulley (24-4103) at Romaine Electric.  It will suit the needs on Hakuna Matata nicely.

Main Message Board / Alternator Upgrade
August 27, 2020, 09:46:34 AM
I am sure it has been asked numerous times but want clarification before I purchase the alternator.  I want the 90A internal regulator direct replacement.  We have solar for majority of our power replacement.  I want the direct replacement for the stock 54A unit.  It appears to be the Leece-Neville 90amp 8MR2069TA which I can find.  Is this the correct upgrade unit for plug replacement. We have a 2000 MKII with an M35B engine.  I appreciate the help.
