Catalina 34s for Sale / 1991 C34 For Sale - San Diego
January 23, 2015, 06:25:41 AM
Hello All -

The time has finally come for my boat and I to part.  Work has moved me to Washington DC and I couldn't bring her with me.  My broker hasn't been posting everywhere he should, so that is why I am posting vice him.  Anyway, I love her, I took care of her, but she has been sitting in SD without for about a year.  I am asking 32K...I want her to go to a good home.
I am not sure about the rules for posting links in this forum, so if you are interested in a C34 near San Diego, let me know and i will send you the yachtworld link.  Thanks everyone!

Hey Lance -

Its all from WM.  I had a spare piece of 7/8" railing that I used and just bought the connections.  The railing is about 2.5 ft long and I chose the ends with the 60 deg angle just because I think it looks nicer.

I installed the middle piece first, stuck to rail through and marked the spot of the end....the angled pieces made it easy to slip the rail into place.

Really easy.

Right now, I have sheet screws (1/2 in, course thread) up there right now and it is solid.  I gave it a good tug before putting the clothes on it.  I am thinking that I may pull it down and add some sort of caulking just as additional hold, doesnt need it though.  Definitely happy with the outcome, and it took a whole 30 minutes to install.

In case there are any live-aboards that sleep in the v-birth (like me) out there that have been looking for a nice way to store hang-up clothes.  I did this for about 25$ worth of parts, I really like how it turned out and it leaves the aft birth completely functional.  I layed down in the rack and the clothes didnt bother me the least bit.  Just an idea I thought I would share.

Ralph,

What components make up you "backbone" and did you get them locally or internet??  Good job on the system, CaliGal gets here in 6 days and once the mast is back up and she looks like a sailboat again, I'm going to start working on my NMEA system.  Except mines going to all work through my iPad via MACENC  I have a feeling it's gunna be a nightmare!

Hey everyone, the Navy was nice enough to relocate me from VA to CA on about a months notice, which means me and CaliGal have a rough next couple of days.

Anyway, if you like anywhere between Virgina and California, and you see a C34 on the back of a semi going down the highway, try and snap a picture of her with your phone and post it on her.  I'm curious just how small the C34 world is.

Thanks everyone,

Main Message Board / Refrig Question
November 28, 2010, 01:59:06 PM
I have a quick question for everyone.  On my survey that I had done, they said that the refrig was mis-labeled on the circuit board.  Well I agree with him....when I flip the refrig switch, the auto-helm starts buzzing.  I know that probably needs to get looked at eventually, so I will get to it.....BUT for now, I need to turn my frig on.  I am trying to follow all the wires right now, but I don't really know what I am looking for.  Can anyone please tell me what I am looking for in order to turn this frig on?  Thanks ahead of time!

Thanks to everyone....that all sounds good.  Is the best way to drain to turn on the shower pump and let it go down the sink?  I know these all sound like stupid questions, but I am still having trouble connecting the hose!  I know, I know sad.  Thanks for all the help everyone is offering.

Hello everyone! So I officially have had my C34 for 5 days now and it honestly is a blast.  I need to ask what y'all probably see as a simple question, but I don't know how to tackle it.  The water lines haven't been ran since the last owner (probably a year or so) and I would really like to flush them before I start showering and stuff....my question is, where does the grey water drain.  Does it go into the same tank as the toilet? If that is the case, then I probably won't be able to do it until I can get to a pump out station?  Silly question I know, but I am still very new with all of this.  Also, when I hook the water line up, I remember reading on here somewhere that there is a regulating value to keep it from over filling....is that correct?  My goal is to be able to have my first shower in my boat by the end of the weekend...please help me!!! Happy holidays to all!

Clay & Mr. Stu -

Thank you both for your replies.  I am really enjoying the hospitality of this forum and its only my first couple post!  Its good to have someone to help me, especially while I am still here in the Red Sea with no one else to lead me any help!

Clay - I will defiantly look into the C34IA when I get back to the states and have the ability to do more research.  I defiantly want access to as much information at possible.  Just by reading your post, I know I need it.  A lot of what you said is Greek to me!  I understood a little bit of it tho.

Mr. Stu - The hull number of the craft I WILL BE buying is #349.  The funny thing, I just found that out 30 minutes ago my searching for the name of the boat on this forum and it popped up!  It is very interesting reading what questions and comments the PO has.  It gives me a little insight on what to expect when I finally get it!

I will certainly have many more questions as the pick-up date gets closer.  Especially when i get my surveyors report here in a few weeks!  Again, thanks to everyone!

Mr Ken -

Thank you very much for the reply and advice.  I will defiantly get my broker to take me out at least once before I sail away with it.  I wont be singling it down to Norfolk...Ill have my fiancee (the boat is a present for her), but I dont know how dirty she will wanna get her hands.  Where is a good place to get a chart?  I will probably have to hand plot GPS on a chart because my boat doesnt have a Chart Plotter yet.  I would be leaving on a Wednesday around noonish and I would like to be in Norfolk Friday around noon-ish....where would you recommend dropping anchor to make that happen?  Thanks again for all the help.

Hello all -

First off, I would like to say that I have been reading this MB for about 1.5 months, and the amount of knowledge is unparalleled.  So thanks to everyone that contributes.

Secondly, I am about to close on my very own Catalina 34 next month.  I am in love with this boat, and I am super excited.  What I would like to know, is if there are any books that I could purchase that talk about this specific platform and the maintenance required to keep it up.

I will be using my boat as a live aboard.  I am in the Navy based out of Norfolk, VA and I am currently deployed to the Red Sea.  When I get back home mid-November, I am going to sail my boat from Annapolis, MD (where I am buying it) to Norfolk.  I went to a school in Annapolis that gave me a solid foundation on sailing, but it has been a while (couple years) since I have done it.  I know alot of you are reading this and thinking this guy isnt all there, and you may be right, but I thrive on adventure, and I am really looking forward to this...and I dont have much of a choice (limited amount of post-deployment leave to do it in).

What I am asking y'all is for any advice to make a successful voyage down.  I can navigate the water fine, I know rules of the road, I know the points of sail, I am just curious if anyone that has made the trip can give me info on what to expect, and how I should expect the boat to handle.

I will be in Annapolis with my boat for a few days in November before I head down, so if anyone in the area there would like to give me pointers, I would really appreciate it.  Whew, been away from the states for 5 months now, it feels good to look forward to something like this.

Thanks everyone for reading,
Jordan
