Ed,

I don't know if this will help or not. I sail a 1995 36MKII and had the same problem this past weekend...couldn't find any pictures. My screws came out ok, but getting the cap off was a bugger....some PB blaster soaking overnight helped out.

Anyway, my pin was a round 3/16 stainless pin. I bought a piece of 3/16 stainless at a local hardware store and cut it to size....problem solved.

I got a replacement at my local Ace Hardware for just a few bucks...I didn't know the thread size, so I took off my old one and brought it to the store.

There's a guy in Colorado, Dan Gerhardt,  that has helped me out a lot with ST4000 problems...he has the knowledge and a bunch of spare parts.
I would send an e-mail to him at     c250@mydurango.net

Good luck

Lance,

You could just come over to J dock and borrow my tools. I use a plumbing wrench on the packing nut and an adjustable  vise grip on the locking nut. They work fine, in fact I just adjusted mine this past weekend.

Your not on salt water, but Ron brings up a good point about corrosion. I would recommend applying some PB blaster to the contact point the day before and let it work in.

My bet is that your fuel lines are permeated. Years back, I had the same issue and that was the culprit. Its amazing that permeated lines can cause such an odor. After installing new (properly rated) lines and the problem went away. Another possibility is a loose hose clamp and a slight drip at that point. I'd check both.

I recently replaced the original ShurFlo on my 1992 C-30 and went with the Jabsco Par-Max 3.0 from West Marine (rated at 3 gallon per minute and part #31395-3000). I got it on sale and I think it was under $90. It also had the "quick connections" and the swap out was pretty easy. The pump is much quieter than the original and I have been quite satisfied with it...I would buy the same one again.  :thumb:
