You may want to put this question on this forum.  Always been good answers for me and Brion does participate.

I actually order 14mm to begin with and had to file them out, but worked fine.  Don't ask :?  From that detail work found that 16mm was the correct size.

How far does the coolant level run below the radiator cap neck with a cold engine with a coolant reservoir installed.  Also what are the usual levels in a quart reservoir hot and cold.

Thanks

Somebody suggested here and I put "T" on all the critical intake thruhulls with a plug on the straight through leg.  Also keep small 2ft piece of dowel stored aboard.  Get in this situation, remove plug, ram with dowel, reinstall plug and continue on.  I have appreciated the idea.  Also easier to lubricate ball valve on top with Lanacote when boat is pulled.

I use one of these for the discharge on a 16,000 BTU unit and it does great.  I found it a much cheaper alternative.  Just google it.

Main Message Board / Anchor Locker on C34
March 21, 2015, 06:57:37 AM
I am getting ready to glass in a deeper anchor locker on my O'Day 35.  I was wondering if anyone knows the fiberglass thickness on the aft side of the Catalina 34.

Ron, in your Wiki article on windlass box support you mention you made it 3/8 thick glass.  Did that prove satisfactory?

I don't know if this helps.  But I recall from the instructions and what I had to do, was decore the first oh about 1/3 (check instructions) of the furling line.  Other wise I would have ended up with the same problem you describe.  After that it worked great.

Not the same boat or make but this is what I did to get wires from on end to the other through this space.  Push a fish tape from one end of the space to the other.  Then feed flexible plastic conduit, Lowes, onto the fish tape.  Pull the wires through the conduit with gel lubricant, Lowes.  Rewired the all of an O'Day 35 this way.

Hope this helps.

John

On my ODay 35 I installed metal feet with counter sunk screw holes and butyl tape (Mainesail). I through bolted the holes with lined with thickened epoxy after reaming out some of the plywood.  That way I will know if the screws start leaking.  Lot of stress on these screws.   On the wiring holes made a counter bore from below so the pipe was supported on the lip above.  Before inserting pipe drilled a side hole in foot half way up for drainage.  Put thick layer of butyl tape around wire hole including the lip on the deck and inside foot socket for the pipe.  Then inserted the pipe, set the set screw. I then pushed the butyl all around hole and the bottom edge of the pipe.  Hope this is clear.  Send me a PM if need more.

Greg. The only problem I had was where to attach the upper in to the lid. I settled through the plexiglass but never comfortable with it because of pushing out. Will be curious with what you come up with.

Friend had a Catalina and after being shocked several times found that the factory ran the Nav light wires under the backing plates for the stantions and push pit. Result was hot stantions and push pit after a while. Not the only case I have heard of this around here on a Catalina.

Might be worth checking with volt meter.
