Main Message Board / Universal M35B
September 10, 2007, 01:11:59 PM
Can someone tell me what the Kubota equivalent engine would be for the Universal M35B engine? I see from posts on the web site that the D950 Kubota is the equivalent to the M25XP but I can't find anything on the M35B engine.

Main Message Board / Swap in Southern California
April 02, 2007, 07:44:32 AM
I am looking for someone in the New England area that is interested in a vacation swap for my 1992 C34 located in Long Beach California. Long Beach is a 4 hour sail to Catalina Island as well as many harbors up and down the coast. The Channel Islands are also located within a one day sail. If interested, contact me directly at captaingary1@hotmail.com.

Main Message Board / Diesel exhaust smell
October 21, 2004, 10:55:00 AM
I have a strong odor of partially burned diesel coming from the exhaust on a Universal M35A motor. I ran a compression test and all cylinders are all equal but test 290psi. The manual calls for 448psi with a limit of 337psi. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know where to get a compression gauge at a reasonable cost that will work on the Universal Diesel?

Main Message Board / Exhaust Problem
September 02, 2003, 08:12:08 AM
I have a problem with exhaust gas that someone else may have encountered before. I get a serious amount of exhaust fumes in the boat. The problem seems to have started in the last 2 years although it may just be that more additive has been put in diesel the past few years so carbon monoxide could be detected easier. My wife has complained about the odor but I have been telling her it is normal but it is very bad.

Main Message Board / Catalina Parts Department

Does anyone have a secret on how to get through to someone in the part's department at Catalina? They don't seem to answer phone calls, faxes or emails.

Main Message Board / Wiring Harness Upgrade
June 20, 2002, 01:40:34 PM
For anyone who has not yet done the wiring harness upgrade, I would strongly suggest doing it. Sunday I put my boat in the slip and shut everything down. About 30 minutes later it started up on its own and the started kept running. Since I was there I was able to disconnect the batteries. Otherwise, I would have burned up the starter or even worse started a fire on board. The molded plug behind the engine panel had melted and shorted the wires together. I called Seaward and they are sending the upgrade for around $30. I was lucky!

Main Message Board / Batteries
May 30, 2002, 01:55:12 PM
I just replaced my Gel cell batteries with     (4) T125 Trojan golf cart batteries in a series parallel combination. I also replaced my starting battery. I plan to mount the starting battery to the port side of the engine. I was told by the dealer that I should run the alternator wire direct to the house bank to minimise the voltage drop then connect the house bank to the starting battery with a battery combiner. Has anyone else wired this way?

Main Message Board / Folding Props
April 30, 2002, 11:20:45 AM
I currently have a Martec folding prop on Windmill #1231 and the cutless bearing does not hold up more than a year. A friend of mine also has the same prop on a newer 36' and has the same problem. We lost his on the return from Ensenada this past weekend. It had only been on the boat for 6 months. Has anyone else with the Martec folding prop been encountering the same problem? Also, any feedback from thos with experience with feathering props would be appreciated.

Main Message Board / Engine cleaning
September 06, 2001, 07:53:46 AM
I have a question about cleaning the engine and engine compartment. I would like to do a good cleaning to get all the oil and grime cleaned up. I was thinking of using an automotive spray on cleaner such as "Gunk" and then spray off with water. Has anyone found an easy way to get all the oil and grime cleaned off?

Main Message Board / Universal M35 engine
June 26, 2001, 08:06:38 AM
I am curious to find out what RPM everyone has been able to motor with the M35 engine. I installed a Martec 15X12 folding prop and have been unable to reach hull speed under power. The Martec people say that I should be able to peak out around 3600 rpm then back off about 20% for cruising speed. My governor is set for a max rpm of 2800 but anything above 2600 causes the engine to start overheating. I am having Martec up the pitch to 14 but they think that will cause more overloading to the engine.

Main Message Board / Jabsco manual head pump
June 08, 2001, 10:22:50 AM
I am looking for others who may have run into this problem. I converted my Jabsco manual head pump to fresh water and the pump is very hard to operate. When using sea water it pumps very freely. I pulled the fill cap off to see if the tank was not venting properly to no avail.
