Well we'd just finished crossing from St. Augustine to Southport. 25 knot winds on the final 8 hours ...

... the main starts ripping so we take it down and the boat stops heeling. That's when the water could reach the fuel line ... on the way into the inlet our engine dies, of course with barges on our 6 o'clock).

At which point my friend looks down and realizes he has left the fuel cap off in high seas. We get to work changing fuel filters and bleeding off water from the bottom of the Raycor. About two gallons of raw sea water and three hours later we finally get the engine to start back up, reluctantly. For the next couple of days she doesn't like starting and sounds terrible around idle speed (with knocking ... so valves maybe?), but just fine at her usual 2500 rpms.

What needs to happen? A fuel polish? New fuel filters? So many questions ... PLEASE HELP!!

1990 1041 with Universal M35 — We have been experiencing some transmission (maybe? See previous post) slippage and inspecting the fluid, RAW WATER squirted out of the transmission dipstick!

We are in Key West feeling a bit screwed - please help!

1990 C34 with Universal M35 - We are in Key West and on the way down, we noticed that once in a while the boat would lose power, vibrate heavily, temperature rises to 180 from 165 (normal operating temp) and we go much slower.

It feels like the transmission may be slipping? I just changed the fluid before leaving.

When this happens, I've been able to "reset" the engine by going to neutral, waiting a moment, reverse, neutral, and then FWD again. I have also found this to happen when running through seaweed. Perhaps they are unrelated or perhaps I am mistaking fear slippage for and entangled prop/blocked thru-hull?

Hello all! CTYP1041K990 here (1990 with Universal 35) - and I am about to service my heat exchanger and change my transmission fluid. I just can't find any great instructions here - can anyone point me the right way?

1990 CTYP1041K990 There appears to be a puddle of dried epoxy (with rotten wood underneath) just below the transmission. You can see it via the center panel in the aft cabin. Could this have been for the old stuffing box?

I am in the boatyard now learning all about my new boat and I did find a big pink square around the propeller thru hole - I have glasses that back in - but I bring this up as a potential related note in the area.

Should I just pull up the old epoxy and rotted wood? Doesn't seem to be doing anything and I could definitely sand clean to re-glass the whole area! Please help!!
