Main Message Board / Marine VHF Radio: Repair or Replace?

Marine VHF Radio: Repair or Replace?

Our Standard Horizon HX460S radio has become screechy and friend thinks squelch control can be repaired or replaced.  It may be old but has excellent battery life.  Just at times screechy.  Have you repaired a radio? Thinking of asking Standard Horizon for a repair quote - anyone done this? Given new units are advertised at starting prices of $100, what unit did you buy and why?  What to look for in a replacement combo VHF marine / weather radio?
Thanks.

I pulled my Zodiac inflatable out after 6-7 months storage.  When I pulled transom plug out, both the sleeve & plug came out as one piece.  I was able to separate sleeve from plug.   Plug goes into sleeve, sleeve should be attached some how to transom hole.  What glue should I use to glue plug sleeve into transom board??? Thinking of using gorilla glue on OUTSIDE of sleeve because it gorilla glue requires glueing surface to be wetted to fully activate the glue.  Looking at the interior transom hole surface (the sleeve gets glued some how into this orifice) I can't tell what material type I am trying to glue the plug sleeve into.  Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.   :thumb:

Main Message Board / Reverse Heat AC
October 10, 2015, 08:25:23 PM
Pente, our 2000 Catalina 36 as factory installed air conditioner. Based on the tag (see picture) has reverse heat feature.  Could somebody please compare the tag on your boat with the attached and confirm yours is same.   My wife and I have both attempted to change the settings to get reverse heat but no luck.  We have followed the manufacturers detailed manual and no heat.   Not to worry, I brought plug in electric space heater and extra sleeping bag.  Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Main Message Board / Winter Storage of Sails

Winter Storage of Sails
We sail Pente on the upper Mississippi River, Lake Pepin, 75 miles SE of Minneapolis.  January - February temperatures get as low as -25 to -30 F.   Boat is stored on jack stands outdoors.  In previous years I have always winter stored sails at home.  This year am considering leaving the jib up, very tightly furled. Main sail might be stored on the boat.  Jib is original to the boat (15 years old), blue sunbrella cover is in good shape.  Sails had minor repairs done last winter and both are in excellent shape.  I would leave multiple wraps on furled jib so it wouldn't become lose.  We have never had issues with rodents getting in boat.
Any really strong reasons why not go through the effort and ritual of taking down jib and storing sails in doors?  Pros:  Save lots of time in the fall and in spring commissioning.
