Main Message Board / Mast unstepping - silly question
« on: August 25, 2018, 04:44:30 PM »
I have never removed a keel stepped mast, so,excuse my ignorance. After the mast is removed, how do you seal the deck hole? Need more than a tarp if the boat gets moved across the country.

Main Message Board / San Diego slips
« on: June 11, 2018, 06:50:29 AM »
Hello to all the San Diego members!  We are possibly relocating to San Diego and I would like to know what options are suggested to keep my boat.

Thanks,

Rob

Main Message Board / Anchor Light Replacement
« on: April 24, 2018, 10:56:04 AM »
I was up the mast trying to remove the original anchor light and it would not lift off. Has anyone done this job without removing the mast cap? Is the wire just that tight? I feel like I'm overlooking something. 3 screws. Loosen base. Lift up to disconnect wires.

Catalina 34s Parts & Pieces For Sale or Wanted / Hood 915 parts
« on: April 22, 2018, 01:03:12 PM »
I just completed the installation of a new Furler (Hood SeaFurl-5).  My Hood 915 continuous line furler was still in good condition. I upgraded along with the rest of the standing rigging. I'm willing to part with parts for the cost of shipping.

Main Message Board / Stainless or galvanized bolts
« on: March 05, 2018, 10:35:35 AM »
In removing my thermostat housing, as others have, I broke one of the bolts. I was wondering if this bolt should be replaced with stainless or some other material since it is attaching mild steel / iron engine parts.

Main Message Board / Standing Rigging lengths
« on: March 05, 2018, 06:59:45 AM »
Just a quick note to remind people that the specs are not always accurate.  I have a 1989 Tall Rig and the rigging is almost a foot longer for each section.  My actual numbers are below.  I will update with the forestay length soon.

Upper shrouds   45' 2-1/2"
Fwd lowers        24'
Aft lowers          24' 3"
Back stay           43' 11-1/2"
Bridle (split)       5' 9"
Forestay             47' 4.5"

Main Message Board / Luff length with furler upgrade
« on: February 26, 2018, 05:45:10 PM »
For you that upgraded from the Hood 915 to the SeaFurl-5 (325).  Did you need to modify your headsail to adjust for a change in hoist length?

Main Message Board / Thermostat source
« on: February 21, 2018, 05:43:58 PM »
Please help. I going crazy.  Every time I think I found a vendor/part number for a 160 F thermostat for my 25XP, it says its 180 or doesn't say.  I know it probably doesn't matter too much, but I sail in the warm waters of the Chesapeake, so I'd like to stay cooler. Anyone bought a thermostat lately? Would rather not pay $60 to Universal.  By the way, the reason I need a thermostat is because my boat did not have one.  Go figure.

Main Message Board / Simple (stupid?) Question - Coolant Removal
« on: February 02, 2018, 12:18:24 PM »
Ok, I'm probably overlooking something stupid, but what is the method that you use to remove the old coolant from the engine - "On Purpose".  I have replaced coolant after it leaked out , but never when it was still in the engine.

TIA

Main Message Board / New Forestay - Old Furler?
« on: January 26, 2018, 11:13:35 AM »
Ok, I've read over and over about how people changed their forestay when they upgraded their furler.  What I have not heard is the guy that did not need a new furler, but his forestay is probably 30 years old.  I have the Hood continuous line furler (915?).  I have read that the stay does not slide out of the extrusion and that it must be disassembled. is this true?  How much of a PITA is it to put back together?

Main Message Board / stainless deck fill cover
« on: April 24, 2017, 06:22:40 AM »
Catalina Direct has custom made Stainless Steel caps that retro-fit our plastic (winch handle) tank covers.

http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm/product/4150_752/deck-pipe-cap-diesel-stainless-steel.cfm

I ordered the Diesel tank cap with haste, as it seemed that it would protect from water.  I received the cap and took it to the boat to install.  Very nice quality cap, but oops... my boat was already upgraded to the "deck key" style fill.  I guess that's what I get for not using very much fuel.

Anyway, would anyone like to take this very nice stainless steel diesel tank fill cover off my hands?

$40 delivered.

Main Message Board / Outboard Rail Mount
« on: February 11, 2017, 10:15:15 AM »
I just bought a new outboard and need to find a mounting bracket for the rail.  I have a 1989 MKI and an 81 lb motor (9.9HP). I tried the plastic bracket (for 8HP) from WM and it didn't fit due to the "T rail" not being square. Do most people custom make their brackets? I refuse to pay Edson $300+.

Thanks

Main Message Board / K50 Mounts to K75 Mounts
« on: August 29, 2016, 07:07:05 AM »
I have read just about every engine mount thread I can find, but I have not found this answer.  If I need to switch the rear mounts to K75's (K50's all around now), do I need to loosen the front mounts to raise the rear of the engine?
