Catalina 34s for Sale / Catalina 87 for sale
September 20, 2019, 11:54:32 AM
 :cry4`
Due to my husbands recent and abrupt passing, I will need to sell his beloved Catalina 1987. Currently docked in Channel Islands Harbor, CA. I will sell this without a boat broker to save some money, and pass that savings on to you. He has maintained the boat well, and kept a log. Lots of extra equipment, tools, parts, etc included. I will be in CA in a few weeks and can post photos at that time. I do have a broker who will do the legal paperwork to make the sale smooth and complete. Asking $25,000.

Main Message Board / New Prop - Michigan Sailor
June 16, 2015, 10:35:16 PM
I've searched for prop information to replace the old one on my 1987 C34.   The current prop is a 3 blade prop but not sure if it's the Michigan Sailor. Is there a way to identify?

The local prop shop says they can only get an Michigan Wheel MP 3 which looks like it would have more drag.  Looking on the Michigan Wheel website they show a 'Sailor 3' which is a 3 blade prop and a 'Sailor 3-Blade'.   These are different props?  Which one should I get?

Also confirming that it should be 15 x 10.  Both the prop shop and Catalina are telling me 15 x 9.

Thanks!

Main Message Board / Mainsail Cover Pricing
June 09, 2015, 07:26:02 PM
Has anyone purchased a mainsail cover from catalinaowners.com?   Their online price is $397 including shipping.  Include cutouts for dutchman, better thread, and shipping. A local canvas maker wants $750.  Catalina Owners quality not good or my local guy just expensive?

Main Message Board / Solar Panel Wiring Route
August 25, 2012, 03:21:28 PM
I've mounted two solar panels on top of the dodger.  I need to get the wiring inside the boat.  I'm thinking of going through the deck near the port winch under the dodger.  Wiring will come through into the head about 2" from the bulkhead between the head and nav station.  It can then run wire in the seam to the side of the boat where it no longer would be visible.

Thought I'd get other suggestions before I drill the hole.

Thanks,

Paul

Main Message Board / Helm Radar Mount
April 04, 2006, 05:21:05 PM
I've installed a used Raymarine RL70 at the nav station. I also have a RC520 display that I want to put at the helm.  Does anyone have suggestions or pictures how they mounted to an old 1987 pedistal?

I found this post I copied to my computer from Ron about a checklist on taking down and putting up the mast. I'm not finding the old post or the checklist using search on the current web site.  I'm pulling the mast down to replace the standing rigging later this month and looking for all the info I can find.  If anyone can point me in the right direction for this checklist I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Paul

While you've got the Mast down....
Mark : Sorry that my source was wrong about Charleston Spars !!! Anyway you got an answer.

In the Aug 2001, I wrote an article on installing a TV antenna. Phil Imhoff and I also wrote a checklist on taking down and putting up the mast. In that article I also mention all the things that I did when the mast was down. If you haven't done it before it's not as tramatic as it seems.

To coat screws, bolts and rivits I just use water resistant grease. The important thing is to get a coating between the two items. APACHE #788

I want to do the main reefing modification using the blocks near each of the grommets.  I've found directions on this but nothing specific on how to attach a new block and a new fixed tie point to the boom.

I'd appreciate advice on what type of screws to use to avoid corrosion, use of any insulation material between the block and boom, size and type of hardware to be secure and withstand the stress, etc...

Thanks,

Paul

Main Message Board / Mounting LCD TV
April 26, 2005, 08:38:12 PM
I'm thinking of mounting an LCD TV in the main cabin on the bulkhead between the main and forward cabin.  I'm concerned how much pounding the LCD TV can take in rough water.  Does anyone have experience in mounting the TV permanently here or should I plan on taking it down each time I sail?

Main Message Board / Fuel Treatment "Algae X"
August 16, 2004, 07:52:12 PM
I had my fuel tank "polished" because my filer clogs FREQUENTLY! He suggested to use "Algae X" instead of BioBor as it does a better job of dissolving fungus and other microbes vs. just killing them and having them drop to the bottom of the tank.

There is also a in-line magnetic device made by Algae X but he doesn't think I would run enough fuel though it for it to be effective.  I've had the boat for about 2 years and have only put in about 15gal of fuel.

Does anyone have any experience with these products?

Paul

Main Message Board / SL72 Plus Radar Unit
June 24, 2004, 11:02:02 PM
I'm looking at getting some radar to avoid the tankers in the shipping channel and when in the fog. If for a few more $$ the unit can also integrate with an old GPS unit,(Garmin 128), to provide location and waypoint information that would be great. I know the new C-Series stuff is great but more $$ than I currently need to spend. Does anyone have experience with the Raymarine SL72 Plus radar unit?  I'm trying to determine the differences and advantages of the SL72 Plus, SL72RC Plus, vs. the new C-series.

Main Message Board / Install Auto Bilge Pump
May 17, 2004, 07:13:18 PM
My boat, (1987 model), only has a manual bilge pump. Can I install an auto pump and "T" into the existing outflow line?

Any suggestions on what pump to get?

Thanks

Main Message Board / Tiller Cap Crack
May 24, 2004, 08:48:05 PM
How serious is a crack in the tiller cap? Can I safely use the boat until it gets replaced?

I did find Ron's article in Tech Notes from 1996. Doesn't sound like the rudder will fall off but does steering become a problem?

Main Message Board / Fiberglass Wax - Restorer
February 09, 2004, 10:36:49 PM
It's time to do a good wax job on my 1987 model and I'm not sure if it's time to use  one of the restorers.  Does anyone have experience using PoliGlow or Microshield vs. wax?
