Main Message Board / Battery
October 11, 2011, 11:06:23 AM
I tried to look up in the forums but could not locate any info, if there is i am sorry..  My batteries have gone dry, most of the ports were empty. I filled them back up and are now charging from the shore power. I also have a solar panel on the boat and as stated a charger. Is it a good idea to have both on or do you all think that it is to much charging going on causing the water to evaporated. I have a 1988 34 catalina Hull 615, 2 house batteries and one starter. Thank you for your insight ....

Main Message Board / Hurricane Irene
August 29, 2011, 09:29:48 AM
The Mary Gee made it through Irene and a storm sugre of at least 7 ft. Had her tied up on a floating dock and she stayed there in the middle through the storm. Just alittle bit of water leaked through the port holes. At my Sailing Club Blackbeards New Bern N.C. we lost at least 13 boat. The worst on was a 45 ft Cabo Rico that broke loose and ended up on land with her mast through the front living room window of some poor guys house...

Main Message Board / Water in both fuel filters
February 22, 2011, 11:27:15 AM
Asking for advice from the group..   I have a 1988 34 catalina Hull 615  universal engine 25   I am asking if i should drain the entire tank and remove it and have it cleaned..   I have pumped about 10 gal out and the fuel looks very clean and no residue in the fuel cans. Sould i just replace both filters and get it running or just clean out the tank...   The boat was running and started to become very sluggish and then a very big cluod of white smoke/steam came oput of the exhaust. Upon inspecting the Racor fuel filter it was very dirty and the filter on the engine was full of water..... after removing as i sadi about 10 gals the bowel on the racor is full of water .....   what would be the next step.   I have looked on the notes but would like some advice thank you ..

Or do you have to take off the heat exchanger to check it ... seems like a bad place to put the heat exchanger  and or the dip stick ... thanks for your input in advance

Main Message Board / Ray Marine Smart Pilot X-5
August 30, 2010, 10:02:42 AM
An update on the Smart Pilot X-5......   I had been having alot of problems with my autopilot since i installed it some 3 mos ago. It worked for the first 4 hours then it would not hold a course i set and kept diplaying " Calibration required " "No Pilot" and just would not work. I hadf a rep come on the boat and he could not figure it out either. I sent the course computer back to ray marine and low and behold the newer units 2010 there was a batch that the circuits were no good. They sent me a new course computer i installed the new unit and it is working just great. If you have one of the newer units and are having problems i would contact Ray Marine. They were very helpful and are vey concern about the newer units. They sent me a 2009 course computer which seems to be working good.

Main Message Board / Starting problems Cable/starter??
January 17, 2010, 02:52:47 AM
1988 34 Catilina Hull 615 went to sea trial engine did not start. How hard is it to remove the starter on a universal 25X  OR could the battery cables not be large enough so as the voltage does not drop when reaching the starter. The batteries are under the salon startboard seats. The cables are what Catalina puts in when built. I am very new to this site and dont know whhere to go for help.. From what i am told the owner did not use the boat to much.... had to push on the compression lever to get it started. i dont think it should be done that way..... Going back on Monday for sea trial and haul out... thank you for any help or suggestions...
