Main Message Board / Universal M35B
September 10, 2007, 01:11:59 PM
Can someone tell me what the Kubota equivalent engine would be for the Universal M35B engine? I see from posts on the web site that the D950 Kubota is the equivalent to the M25XP but I can't find anything on the M35B engine.

It is a tight fit but the cable will fit in the coduit. That is the way mine was done with the Ramarine radar.

I am looking for someone in the New England area that is interested in a vacation swap for my 1992 C34 located in Long Beach California. Long Beach is a 4 hour sail to Catalina Island as well as many harbors up and down the coast. The Channel Islands are also located within a one day sail. If interested, contact me directly at captaingary1@hotmail.com.

Boaters World stocks a white reading light for around $20. I installed one on each side of the mast and get great ligh for reading. I drilled holes for the wires and ran them inside the mast. I am attaching a picture of the light also.

I have a 16 X 12 Martec that I used on my 1992 Catalina 34 with the M35 for 1 season. I don't race anymore so I put my fixed 3 blade back on. If interested, I could sell it to you at a good price. You can reach me at captaingary1@hotmail.com.

Main Message Board / Diesel exhaust smell

I tested the compression again today after squirting a little oil in each cylinder. The compression came up to 400 pounds each. What next?

Main Message Board / Diesel exhaust smell
October 21, 2004, 10:55:00 AM
I have a strong odor of partially burned diesel coming from the exhaust on a Universal M35A motor. I ran a compression test and all cylinders are all equal but test 290psi. The manual calls for 448psi with a limit of 337psi. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know where to get a compression gauge at a reasonable cost that will work on the Universal Diesel?

The nylon filament line used by sail lofts is just monofilament fishing line (300lb) that you can get at tackle shops.

Main Message Board / Television Antenna

Your best bet is to install an A/B switch in your VHF antenna line and run one side to your TV and the other to your radio. BoatUS has one that has a seperate load antenna that is connected to the radio when the switch is in the TV position. This is to protect your radio in case you key the mike while the switch is in the TV position. You will find the reception is excellent.

Main Message Board / Exhaust Problem
September 15, 2003, 08:10:24 AM
A followup on this. I put new injectors in and removed the outside cover of the silencer to allow more air in. The odor is still very strong. I have heard from 3 different people that extending the exhaust with a small piece of stainless tube and rubber hose to get the exhaust underwater would make a bif difference. Has anyone heard of this type of a fix? My understanding is that the open transom is much more proned to get the gases circulating back into the cockpit.

I should have explained that the exhaust fumes are coming from the outside and not the inside.

Main Message Board / Exhaust Problem

I have a problem with exhaust gas that someone else may have encountered before. I get a serious amount of exhaust fumes in the boat. The problem seems to have started in the last 2 years although it may just be that more additive has been put in diesel the past few years so carbon monoxide could be detected easier. My wife has complained about the odor but I have been telling her it is normal but it is very bad.

Main Message Board / Head Replacement
September 11, 2003, 08:27:57 AM
I replaced my Jabsco manual head with the Jabsco Quiet Flush. Mounting holes lined up with the exception of the extra 2 bolts off to the side. I just put shorter bolts back into those holes.
