Here is the table installed.
I ended up re-using the stainless steel hinged clamp slides that held the legs of the old table as supports for the bottom of the legs on the new one then only had to use one of the wooden clamps with a 1/4" bolt (2.5" length) and a wing nut to secure the table to the pedestal.

As promised, here are the parts and dimensions.
The wood for this project is cut from a single 12"X6' Sapele Mahogany board 3/4" thick. The etching on the leaves was done on a Epilog laser.
Our pedestal has 1" tubes that are 9 1/2" apart centre to centre. I have 30" from the cockpit floor to the supports for the Binnacle - I will put the top of the assembled table just below this.
Main table 24"X11 1/2"
Table leaves  (2) 24"X5 3/4"
Table and Leaves are planed to 1/2"
Back board is 11.5" wide 13 1/2" tall with 2" legs that will rest against the pedestal tubes. The cutout between the legs is 8"wide x7"tall (this also allowed me enough extra material for the fiddles, cup holder and support brackets).
The cup holder is 4"x11 1/2" with 3" holes (Top) and 4 1/4" X 11 /1/2" (bottom is inset 1/4" into back board). The sides are 1 1/2"X4"
The fiddles are (2) 1/4"x21 1/2" (long ones) and (4) 1/4"x3 1/2" (short ones)
The support braces are (2) 11 1/2"wide x1"deep x 3/4"thick with half circle cut-outs of 1"x1/2" at 9 1/2" apart to fit the pedestal tubes.
Precise location of mounting screws tbd at installation in the next week or so. Will update this post with photo of installed table when complete.

Main Message Board / Cockpit folding table

This year's winter project was to replace the rickety old folding cockpit table which was basically falling apart. After searching for replacements and being staggered by cost, I decided to build my own. Searching for plans online proved fruitless so looked at a bunch of photos of examples on pedestals with similar dimensions to our boat and came up with my own plan.
Happy to share dimensions of the parts if anyone is interested. Would have saved me a bit of time and experimenting.

Here's the "magazine rack" style storage bracket. I thought it was factory installed - do any other MkII owners have it? When I bought the boat in 2016 the elastic bungee was cracked and ready to fail, so I immediately replaced that, but otherwise it's exactly like when I purchased the boat.

Our 2000 MKII has the same storage bracket. I suspect its a factory install. I find it very convenient.

Firstly, I would like to say how terrific it is to have such a great resource for troubleshooting. This association has been a wealth of information to me as I get to know my Catalina 34.
I have been tracking down a couple freshwater leaks in the boat using guidance from the tech notes and wiki as well as the discussion board. The general symptoms were water in the bilge and the freshwater pressure pump kept running. Found two so far, the 1st is a leaky inspection port on the forward freshwater tank - a huge relief it was not the tank itself!
The second was a split check valve leading to the hot water tank. The faulty valve photo is attached.
I went to my marina chandlery and the only thing they had on hand was Sea Tech.  I was a bit skeptical, but everything snapped together nicely and it's doing the job, but I wanted to know if anyone else has incorporated these fittings in their Catalina what their opinion is?

Main Message Board / Lighting close call

We have been replacing the halogen lights in our new-to-us Mark II with LED bulbs. The PO did mostly day sailing and had not bothered to update the lamps.
This is what I found in the Salon and Galley light fixtures when I removed the halogen bulbs. Clearly the fixture was not designed to withstand the heat halogen lamps produce.
This was a fire waiting to happen, and for me, an indication to review all the light fixtures and remediate damaged or weak fixtures.
Let this be a warning to those who may still be using halogen lamps on board or new owners as a must check item.

I just removed the old halogen lamps and replaced them with LED's in the fall.
They were in fact, rear pin bulbs with straight pins but some were challenging to get out. I used a couple thin blades barely inserted between the edge of the bulb and the plastic fixture and pried gently. I found that a couple of the housings had corrosion on the receptacle which made pulling them out difficult. I also found a couple housings that needed to be replaced due to melting from the heat from the halogen bulbs. Definitely glad I removed those.
