I have sold Perseverance to a friend, 2 slips south of me.  The new owner is the current owner of a Cat27.  On Tuesday he will own Perseverance.  Hopefully he will invite me out a lot.

I will be going to the "dark side" with a tritoon, which would be a better "social boat", but not a sailboat,  and one my wife has wanted for a while.

I want to thank everyone who has helped me learn how to make my time with Perseverance enjoyable.  I appreciate all of the time and advice that many of you have provided.  I have encouraged the new owner to be involved on this site also.

Have you tried a little grease on the track? Mine was getting hard, and i just used a little grease and all is well.

I have an oberdorfer pump and have only had to prime it once.  That occurred because i had the inlet valve open and changed the impeller when on the hard.  Obviously the water all ran out.  Since then i always close the water intake valve before changing the impeller and have not had another problem.

The one time that I did need to prime it, i just removed the effluent side and poured water into the pump. I reconnected the hose and it started up fine.

Remember that your goal is only look like your boat is harder to break into that the boat next door! You will never make it impenetratable. Even a sign sayimg "Smile, you are on camera" can be effective. With all of the masts, light poles etc, no one could be sure whether or not there is a camera.

When i was considering wind sensors, my local electronics person felt pretty confident that he could install the wired sensor without stepping the mast. He felt he could just fish the wire down, or use an existing wire to pull everything up or down.

I ended up with a wireless one and have had problems. I wish i had gone with the wired one.

Mark, that is NOT the situation.  I start the engine, instruments work fine. After i am out to the big lske, i shut off the engine, instruments still work.  I try to remember to switch from start to house.  Instruments still work.  After a few hours sailing, voltage drops to 10.8v and the gWind bluetooth sensor stops working.  I usually continuing sailing.  After a while i return to port, i try to remember to switch back to my stsrt battery, start my engines and the gWind starts working again.

I have replcaced all 3 batteries.  I am now going to test to see if the voltage drop has anything to do with which battery i use to start the engine.

I'm not really sure how losing power to the Bluetooth makes a difference with which battery you start on?   Elaborate?
Ken.

I did deteemine that when the voltage drops to 10.8v the bluetooth gWind sensor stops working.

I just want to ensure that starting on the start battery or starting in the house battery makes no difference on my boat. I agree with you in theory, but pos could have done all kinds of things from 1986.

Thank you all for your insights and experience.  I am having some of the same problems that Ken Juul mentioned losing power for the chartplotter (actually i lose my bluetooth wind sensor first when power drops.) I leave my boat in a slip and on shore power 24/7.  I am going to be really careful about starting on the start battery and switching to house as soon as i shut down the engine, and see if it affects the length of time before i lose power for the wind sensor. If there is no difference, I will just keep the "start battery" as emergency as KWKloeber and Mainsail suggests.  If it does make a difference i will just have to be more disciplined.  In any case, i do appreciate everyones input!

I have 2 house batteries and 1 starting batttery.  I try to remember to switch to the start battery under power and then switch to house when i shut off the engine, but i sometimes forget to switch back to house after shutting off the engine..  What is the problem with using the house batteries for starting and general usage, and keeping the remaining battery just as a backup if needed?

I ordered mine from catalinaowners.com.  The cushions are dense closed cell foam, but are covered with a woven material where each thread is teflon coated. Very comfortable I made a template for my Mk1 which was not hard, and they now offer it to others on their site.  I have used the cushions for 2 years now and love them.  They wash and drip dry perfectly. I think they were about $900 for the set of three cushions. The helm cushion is shaped to fit the rise in the helm seat.  Cant say enough positives.  Easy people to work with. They will send samples of the fabric if you wish.

I think Steve meant pour water into the hose between the pump and the thru hull to ensure there isn't an air block.

Actually i did describe it right.  I poured water into the output side of the pump.  That way the pump body filled with water.  It started working immediately and hasnt given me any trouble since.

In addition, I had a situation where i replaced my impeller when i was on the hard and forgot to shut off the raw water intake. The water ran out of the pump. When i replaced the impeller, launched and started the engine, i had no water coming out. I had to close the raw water intake, pour some water into the output side of the pump, replace the output line, open the raw water shut off and everything was fine.

If the existing vent tube is just for water, i would not think that it would have to be vented outside. As long as the end of the tube was sigmificantly above the water level, venting to the interior should work fine.

Is there a gap at the end of the tube now, or is the end pressed against a structure to block the end? I would think that if you just backed the tube down a little to allow air to escape from the tube it should work fine.

Thank you both. I will call Westerbeke on Tuesday and post here what they say in case anyone else is interested.
