I posted a request in the "for sale" section, but I wonder if potential sellers would look there.  We re looking for a wing keel, std rig.   I also responded to a request from a member to describe how we lost the boat.  This may be of interest to others. Mods feel free to delete this if it shouldn't be here of move the other thread over here.  thanks!

We had a CAT 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160mph.  Not many boats here survived.  We were in  a very protected bayou, but only 3 boats survived out of 18 slips.  The entire dock structure was ripped apart.  Our boat was stacked with about 5 boats against the shore.  All of my dock lines were still in place on the boat.  She was totaled due to large hull/deck separation - Boat US was great.

A lot of people don't know how bad it was, and still is here.  It was one year ago yesterday and there are still people living in tents here.  By pressure I think it was the third strongest in recorded history at the time behind Camile and the 1935 storm in the keys.  Mexico Beach is a lot worse because they were on the other side of the eye and a 14' surge as well.  My neighborhood rode the entire west wall of the eye for about 4 hours - scary stuff.  For a datapoint, our rig was still up with one lower pulled out at the swage.  The island packet 35 next to me had the mast shear off at the spreaders.  Of course we were all bouncing off of each other, so no telling what all happened.  Also, I wouldn't read anything into the hull deck separation.  We were probably hit by the island packet 35 or the Catalina 42 next to us in the pile.

Of course the folks in the Bahamas had it much worse.

Catalina 34s for Sale / Seeking 34 MKII for sale

We lost our 2003 to Hurricane Michael.  I am trying to find any 34 MKIIs for sale (STD Rig, Wing Keel).  I am following some on Yachtworld.  If anyone knows of any for sale, other sources for listings,  or are considering selling, please contact me.  I am in North Florida. Thank you!

Thanks for the comments - i understand - I think i should have said  "alternative" vs "replacement".  Another thing to consider for us is that the 355 won't do the bridges around here.  Thanks again for the input.

Main Message Board / Catalina 315 as a replacement to 34?
November 29, 2018, 12:15:46 PM
We lost our 34MKII to Michael.  Has anyone been aboard/sailed a 315 that can offer a comparison? It seems from what i can see online that they have been able to get a lot of capability in a shorter length.

thanks is advance!

I ended up removing the hatch lid and sending it to Select Plastics (hatchmasters) for a refurb.  I had seen them advertise in sailing mags for years.  They received the hatch an sent a detailed estimate.  They replace the lens, all seals, and in my case, some of the brittle plastic pieces.  I thought the price was fair and they seem great to work with so far (answered lots of Emails, called me right away when the received it, etc).  They do have a backlog of one month however, so they must be popular.  I suspect they will be seeing more of my hatches as the boat ages.

hope this helps -

I case it helps anyone, it appears to be a Lewmar Medium Profile, size 44.

Can someone please confirm that that the cabin hatch circa 2003 is a Lewmar Ocean series, size 44?  That is what it looks like in the specs.  Is there a tread on refurbishment that I haven't been able to find?
thank you!
