thanks for the replies and advice. The shaft be bent! I hit a piece of snow fence better known to southerners as contruction site fencing while going under the Geo Washington bridge in New York. It sounded like a cannon going off . Anyway got hauled at Liberty park Marina and removed. But it's the only thing I can think of that would bend the brass shaft or whatever oem is. Keep the cards n' letters comin folks.

Main Message Board / Re: Mast Rewiring, Wrong!

I don't know how you feel about this but the same thing happened to me when I took down the "stick" to go thru the NY canals. The rivets broke loose on the bottom of the mast from the spreaders down . I had the mast down so I went to a craft shop and bought square pieces of styrofoam about 6x6x6 or so and used 12 ft lengths of 3/4 plastic water pipe taped together to shove about 3 of them up the mast . Worked all last year:no more rattle. When the mast was raised I see-sawed the halyards thru it a few times and no problem. Gasoline will melt styrofaom like butter if you want 'em out . Crude but effective.

water seems to work tho what's the cause? No oil leakage anywhere-noise appears to come from the belt inside wheel housing......

I have a 91 c34-the autohelm has started to squeek after about one hour of use. The power unit is hardwired so not sure if that's a st4000 or just a 4000. Now don't laugh but I poured fresh water into the belt on the wheel while running and the squeek stopped but I would relly like to know if there is a need for TLC inside the wheel housing.

They are great for single handing .I have 'em ,find that I have to turn into the wind to get the main to drop completely-no stress on the slugs. Same with raising-battens sometimes get snagged but not a big problem if you have auto helm. I would buy them again.

Probably everyone has had this problem;odours from under the port settee and the locker by the nav table. I have been told to change the hoses but do the platic 1991 model tanks emit strage smells?

We went thru Trent & Erie system in '06 using the bow & stern pulpits as a bas and using 2x4's for risers  and a piece of 1/2 plywood as a template with a slot for the mast so it couldn't turn sideways.doubled up the 2x4's for the mast hole . 78 locks I recall & it worked okay. my email is iwillmott@sympatico.ca if you would like pictures.

I have the same problem on a 91 '34. is there no way to lubricate these things?
