Thanks for all your help and pictures.  To answer the question, I was looking where the forward bimini straps were attached.  The toerails explain why I could not find the previous mount holes and the struts seem like a really good way to go.

Thanks,  It looks like it attaches on the deck close to the toerail.  I would not have guessed this.  My straps come from the top of the bimini, not from the side strut.  Does your boat or other boats you have seen work this way?

Hi,  I'm redoing a 97 MKII.  Decks have all been redone.  There is no sign of where the bimini  eye (pad) straps use to be.  Not sure where the coachroof or even if they went to the  sidedeck or stanchions.  Know that if it is the wrong place can interfere with mainsheet, boarding boat, moving around, etc.  Can anyone let me know where the padeyes for  a "stock" bimini are typically located?   Also the aft straps just attach to the stern rail, right? Thanks

Can anyone tell me where to get a new exhaust thru-hull for a 97 MKII?  The exhaust pipe interior diameter is 1 5/8.  The few I've found online (including Catalina Direct) have 3 holes in the flange to screw to the hull, but I'd like one that mounts like a normal thru-hull with an interior locking nut.  Thanks

Hi,  Does anyone have advice for removing the "newer" style deadlights (MKII  1997)?  I've looked on the site and FAQ but these post seem to be targeting deadlights/fixed ports that are bolted in place.  The new ones appear just sealed in place and I'm wondering if there is a trick to removing them (e.g. heat gun).  Thanks, Doug

thanks,   the solenoid switch is on the main breaker, so all the boat's breaker's wires are bundled, so it will take cutting a bunch of tie wraps to track it.  Don't know where the other end is, keep hoping it will just show up.  If it doesn't show up I'm going to put a new switch in by the stove, probably should be there anyway.

In the - I hate to admit this but....

I took my propane compartment out of my 97 mkII many months ago.  Putting it back I can not find the two solenoid wires that I cut, to splice back too. 

Can anyone (with a similar vintage boat) tell me where the wires going from their propane tank's solenoid are ran/located? this would probably involve looking underneath the propane compartment,from the cockpit's starboard lazarette.

I thought they ran from the solenoid on the aft starboard side, beneath the cockpit, to the port side and then forward. No cut wires there.  But they might run forward along the starboard hull and then cross over somewhere below the interior cabin. if this is the case they could have gotten pulled into the plastic sleeve other wires run into.

I need to replace the fixed deadlights on my 97 catalina.  Looking for advice on how to remove and if it is OK to replace with plexiglass (vs Lexan).  Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to "hand carve" some repairs that I've done to my non-skid.  Would really appreciate hearing how others have done it.

Thanks to all for their help.  I ended up cutting out the fiberglass "overhang" that runs along the top of the shelf to pull it out.  It was not easy and not a small cut.  With all connections removed and only a gallon or so of diesel left in it,  it still came out with much effort. My fault for voicing that this was going to be an easy boat project.  In hindsight, I would have cut out the fiberglass in the lazarette to remove it.  The repair would have been relatively simple.

Thanks, it's good to know the tanks were put in after the liner.  It can be done!

The tank mounting base does not have any extra support, but the top of the tank's mounting "compartment" may have reduced clearance due to the support "lip" of the aft cabins ceiling, but factory stuff.  There is a lip that extends down from the ceiling of the aft cabin, that goes across the tanks area.  This lip looks like it may not be extended across the  the tank area  on other pictures posted on this sites "tank removal" searches for some other catalinas.

In the forward part of the fuel tank compartment there were two hoses for the fuel tank and one hose for an antifreeze/coolant overflow reservoir, that is located in the cockpit lazerate above the fuel tank.

I can not get my tank out.  I've read the numerous post and checked out pictures but no help. Thinking 97's may be different.?    The metal tank has two mounting brackets on the front, this prevents you from moving the tank forward by 2 inches (compared to fiberglass one I saw pictured).  I took my fuel hoses and coolant hose out of the compartment and that gave me an exta  1 1/2 inches forward but still no luck.  I've twisted and pried everyway could, even used a car jack to try to get some clearance.  No luck.  With the jack I can just get the very tip of the welded corner out.

Any suggestions?  Think I may have to cut fiberglass or somehow break off mounts.

Hi, New to this forum.  Have 97 34' MK II that I'm repairing after hurricane damage.  What is involved in removing tank once fuel is out?  Look like two mounts are on the lower forward section of tank.  Are they the only ones?  Are there many fittings that need to be taken off that can't be seen?  Thanks,  Doug
