Quote from: LogoFreak on August 06, 2024, 06:17:11 AMWhen I replaced the transmission on my previous boat that had an M25 I first looked at having it rebuilt. Several shops told me it's a waste of time, for whatever reason they don't last after being rebuilt. Buying a new transmission is the way to go if yours needs it.
hop "rebuild" ours. One weekend of use later, the fluid leaked out of a misaligned seal. The guys that distributed Hurth transmissions, said they were considered disposable. We bought a new one.

I know we had to remove the engine to replace ours. After installing the new one, I became absolutely anal about ritually checking the transmission fluid every single time I took out the boat (along with the oil and coolant).

The dipstick on top of the Hurth was easy for me to reach over the Universal M25XP and unscrew. On the MKII, it's more challenging to get to the dipstick.

I suggest you start looking for a replacement (we rebuilt ours and it failed still necessitating the new one). We also replaced the motor mounts while the engine was out.

Not sure what transmission you have but if it's a Hurth ZF10 it could be time for a replacement...I hope not. Our Ericson had a ZF10 that went bad. The guys from the factory called them the "1000 hour transmission" because they were known to fail at that many hours.

That being said, we put a brand new (in 2007) ZF10 that was still flawless when we sold the boat last fall (well over 1,000 new hours).

Perhaps it could be a linkage issue. Have someone stand at the helm and shift from forward to reverse while you look at the cable and linkage. It could be that the bracket that holds the cable to the transmission housing came off...

We had two reefs on our 32. The second emailed the boat to handle quite well in 25-30 knot winds.

I will be ordering a new mainsail soon and want the second reef as well.

Hi Rob, having had them go south before I thought the same thing.

I see you're in New Bern. We almost bought a home on the water in Oriental. Went there to check out a 52' Amel Super Maramu to do a two year sail and fell in love with that area.

Removed the teak trim piece and can feel wires inside the small space but a, having a hard time getting them down.

It seems they are held up by some type of screwed-in wire tie? I can't see up in the channel. Anyone know what's holding the wires above the bookshelves on the starboard side on an MKII?

Thanks

These are Hella fans just like I had in our last boat.

My friend sold the cushions.

Thanks everyone. This particular fan is mounted in the forward port corner of the aft cabin. There is no light there to tap into.

I've already run the wires from that location into the electrical panel. I guess I could use Jim's yell splice connector at the cabin light switch n the panel.

While in Erie visiting Jim Hardesty aboard Shamrock a couple weeks ago, I noticed his cabin fan and ordered one for the aft cabin.

I've installed it and have run the wire directly to the electrical panel. I want to connect it to the cabin light switch instead of direct to 12 volts because that way I won't kill the battery if I forget to turn off the fan (which is likely to happen since it is back in the corner of the aft cabin by the AC vent behind the head sink)

Can anyone give me input on how to jump it off the cabin light switch on the panel?

Thanks in advance.

Quote from: rmjohns on June 03, 2024, 03:38:52 AMOne thing on the head faucet / shower is there is an on/off push button on the faucet wand (If that's the right term). At the end of the wand is a lever to go from stream to shower, at the base of the wand is little push button that turns it on / off.

So you can get your hot / cold temperature correct, soak up, and then use the push button on the wand to turn off the water supply to soap, etc.

You may have already been aware of this, but thought I'd mention it just in case, it's pretty hidden down there.

Arrived at the boat to install the new pump today and discovered that it was exactly what you described....the button at the bottom of the wand was pushed. I imagine one,of my grandkids did it while using the head.

Now I have a brand new fresh water pump I will put into inventory.

Thanks for your help.

Many years ago, days after getting our new sailboat (Ericson) my wife and I were headed out for a weekend getaway. As we pulled up to the fuel dock, I jumped off and began filling a gas tank for our dinghy outboard while the dockhand was filling up our diesel tank. A few minutes in and I hear my wife "You did what?"

The dockhand had pumped 10 gallons into our starboard tank. Luckily, we had a forward tank and we're able to enjoy the weekend on that water supply. The marina replaced my water tank for free (and fired the dockhand).

If possible, I would suggest you get a new water tank.

Main Message Board / Shower issue

Aboard today I stepped into the head to take a shower. When I turned on the switch then opened the faucet, I got no water and heard the water pump cycle in 1 second intervals.

I go the galley sink, turn on the water...no issue...full flow. It looks like there are two fresh water pumps under the galley sink (one for the the shower and one for the galley sink).

Any ideas on what the problem with the shower is? It worked fine a few weeks ago.

Thank you for your input.
