Hey Steve, thanks for your post...

After a few hours of measurements (with some finger crossed guessing)drilled a hole in the stem of the pedestal and successfully mounted the RAM cable connector inside the pedestal.

Do you have pictures of this location?

My RAM mic is mounted on the port side of the cockpit, right above the manual bilge pump cover.

Hey Roc, do you have a picture of this installation?

recommendation from the survey was to change the Exhaust riser

Francois, :thumb: thank you for starting this thread. Did the person performing the survey actually remove the exhaust riser insulation? I'm curious how they came to the conclusion you needed to replace it. I'm impressed that they made the recommendation which seemed correct based on your pictures. I think I wil do the same...we have similar vintage boats.

Anyone, I assume that the number one problem with these exhaust risers resulting in having to replace them is corrosion failure. Does anyone know why this is? Is there a galvanic corrosion issue designed into the system? Is that why we would replace with electropolished S/S?

The previous owner had used a bucket to load the rode into and set that on top of the chain. Seems to make it fairly easy to keep the rode from sitting wet in the bottom of the locker.

My PO also used a square kitty litter bucket that is about 9.5x9.5x13. It holds 15' of 5/16" chain and another about 150' of rode. I like it, but I've upgraded the anchor to a 35# Mantus and looking for storage options for 15' of 5/16" and 200' of rode.

Like you, I don't want to put the rode on the basin of the locker.  Can you share a picture of what you settled on?

Hi Jeff
The Mantus is actually my backup to a Rocna 15kg. Both are great anchors, but since the Mantus can be broken down and stowed conveniently it gets "backup" status. The pictures were taken when I was making sure the Mantus would fit properly. Obviously it does. The way it would be secured is identical to the Rocna which is:
- A length of electrical wire loosely wrapped around the anchor swivel at the aft end of the bow roller
- A 1/4" Wichard chain hook attached to the chain. The hook is on 1/4" Sampson which is looped around the cleat in the anchor locker. The loop is tightened with a rolling hitch.
- The hatch on the anchor locker, if latched, should also help to keep the anchor from getting too frisky. You can close the hatch completely with both the Mantus and the Rocna. Not so with some others I looked at.
- The windlass itself. As a last resort the chain is loosely draped over the chain gypsy. And no, we probably both have the Maxwell VW500 but the original buyer ordered the (now unavailable) combination gypsy/windlass head for the VW500. The gypsy accomodates 1/4" short-link chain.

- Mick

Mick, I picked up the 35# Mantus M-1. I rigged it up (I'm out of the water right now) up on my bow roller with a shackle and a rode for test purposes. When it is installed firmly into the bow roller, it looks just like yours. But I had trouble getting enough momentum or leverage to get it to roll over the roller, because the shank is so long and straight. When the end of the shank gets right up to the roller, then the business end of the shank is getting a force pulling aft from the shackle/rode ad a force vertically down from the anchor. It is a dilemma. Have you seen this?

BTW: You are lucky with that gypsy!

Thank you, that looks perfect and exactly how my bow roller looks. I am glad I chose the 35# Mantus now. I assume you have the same windlass as mine (not chain friendly). How does the anchor stay in position?

Can any of you post pictures of your 35# Mantus on the bow roller? Especially anyone with a MkII era.

Project is finished. I appreciate the c34 project page for the initial idea. Here's what I did:

I used 2 x 1" thick pieces of starboard (8"W x 15"L). I took a 1" DIA round router bit to create the grooves that secure around the horizontal pulpit rails. Then I countersunk my hardware to secure it. I bought the DINGHY DAVIT PIVOT BASE DD - PB 1.0 from Garhauer and then cut it to length, and secured it with some butyl tape and hardware. Now the project is done, and I like the final results. I should be able to mount my Yamaha 9.9 on this without concern.

NOTE: My 1996 MkII has a pulpit from a newer year. The original was damaged in hurricane Sandy and replace by the PO with the newer pulpit.

Hi Bill, those are some extreme RPMs you are posting. I can get over 5 knots with no current effect on my 2-blade. I don't know if Stu is monitoring this thread, but I assume my prop is standard.

Would the stern rail be stronger if you moved the outboard mount to the outside of the "perch" seat??

Our 1996 MkII has the stern pulpit from a later model (after 1996). I don't think the outboard motor mount that I built would fit anywhere else. The motor was held in place fine, but touching the railing and giving it a slight tug demonstrated how flimsy the 1" pulpit is. I wouldn't trust my motor on it under any dynamic load conditions. Remember, my motor is in the 90 lb range.

I just purchased a pulpit support from Garhauer, and after I install it, I'll post a picture.

We just made our own stern rail motor mount using 2 x 1" pieces of starboard. I modeled the basic design from oher posts. We have a 9.9 Yamaha 4-stroke, and we raised he motor onto the mount today. We found that the stern pulpit is just not strong enough for that weight without a support piece being installed.

We have a 9'1" AB Lammina AL with a 9.9hp 4-stroke Yamaha. I love the combination. We can fit 4 people on the dingy bumping knees and carrying some gear. The motor is about 95+ lbs and I believe the dinghy is at least 95+ lbs. It has a front locker and three separate tubes.

We are going to try towing the dinghy on our short weekend coastal cruising routes.

I have sometimes wished it was ligher, but after we hit a 3"x3" block of wood in the marina going slow, I was comforted by the aluminum hull taking it in strides.

Thanks, Stu. I figured out how to set up my signature (hope it worked!). We love to anchor but we have tidal and soft/loose ground here in the NYNJ area. I will look at the posts you mention. I'm a newbie here, so thank you for the tip.
