Sad to hear, I sailed on Shermax many times with Max. He was always very sharing and understanding with all crew member.  Shermax was his SMSA race boat for many years. Pushing a TM C30 around the race course has it challenges.  As he knew every Catalina 30 on the bay he was able to get a few for Screwpile one of the bigger multi day regattas on the Chesapeake.  There was no mistaking Max's sailing gloves he was a big guy with a big heart.

Check Zahnisers likely best marina in Solomon's, go from there. Solomon's Is a good place to be, you could do a lot worst.  If he does not like that price call around Annapolis, will make him feel better.  Plus Solomon's is a good location for hauling a boat is close to major highways verse being on the other side of the bay. One addition point, folding a full batten main with lazy jack is almost like cheating.   Managing a full batten mail is much easier, folding, reefing.  Loose foot is the standard.  A good Dacron will last many years. Good Luck  Just asking how old is your head sail?

I would be all over that boat with a moisture meter  If you are a member of club you will run into someone that has one. A a couple of youtubes a some practice in a boat yard.  Nice of them not to clean the bilge If he is shows you all of this up front there may not me much left to hide.

Interesting, how many fin keels C34 were made? it seems most I see advertised are wing.  Did you note any difference with the water tanks, starboard vs aft tank full vs empty?  Do you have any details on rig turn fixed backstay? Thanks for all of you attention to detail will have take notes.

Wanted companionway hatch boards, close to making a set thought I would check to see what was available.

Jim, you are correct, you are up front tell people what you have and go from there.  Bacons is OK most think they are over priced on used sails but they are in Annapolis.  They do a ton of business, what do I know. Minnies is gone they sold lots of used sails.  I bought one there. I have bought stuff at Bacons also.
  I would like to buy a used A-chute a toy will get used a couple of times.  If I like it maybe I will get a better one.  Have not taken the time to figure out the size for a tall mast.  Getting a used one off a J105 is a plan.

There are multiple business with web sites that sell used sails take a look see what they are asking for similar sails.  If you buy new sails they are often shipped to you.  Take you time fold them and box them.  It is worth selling if you can. Or they sit around you house and become worthless.  I have a main sail on ebay, may sell may not.  I hope it sells!

Hello, I see there are a few threads on adding cheek blocks or foot blocks aft of the primary winches for the jib sheets.  I am preparing to add these on a 88 C34 Hull#694.  I believe this will provide a better angle for trimming in the jib.  I have a set of Scheafer 37-13 cheek blocks and a 37-13 foot block.   I can pick up another foot block if it is preferred.  I picked these up at a West Marine going out of business sale a few years ago.  Will be nice to finally use them,
Does anyone have pic on the placement of these blocks?  If anyone else has done similar are you happy with the upgrade?  From the threads this is a standard option on newer C34's?  Is a 1 inch off set block reasonable?   I have some teak or mahogany for a the off set.
  Any tips are helpful before I start drilling holes.

Thanks for the replies!  Yes we were we were able to trace the wire all the way back to the on and off switch on the Data Marine thing in the Nav. Table.  I was not aware it did anything the switched must have gotten flipped off. Was a good learning experience.  Glad to get off off with a few hours of sweat equity.
Have not dug into the autohelm hope it is just a belt is a nice thing to have.  The AC picked up a prime right off and started working all in all not a bad day.  Now to get away from the dock.

88 C34 we have no power at the the instituters.  These are the original which worked fine last season. The VHF and instruments are on the Nav/Com switch on the panel.  The radio works no power at the instruments.  Everything looks good.  Spent a few hours today working on this, not resolved.  Tips appreciated.

Has anyone ever seen a autohelm self destruct?  Ours did yesterday we were out just started sailing could not turn the wheel, looked down there was thin wire wrapped around the spindles of the wheel. The wire was coming out of the autohelm wheel.  After droping sails we used a pair of scissors to cut the wire away.  We decided to continue with a few hours of sailing after cutting the wire away.  The wheel lock does not work now.  Seems pointless to test the autohelm at this time.

Hello Roland, yes I hear you on choosing sails between options, sail material and budget.  If you are looking mail order have you looked at Mack sails?  I have not used them but am impressed with their web site I thought there was some good information there.  I did get a quote very competitive.  Am interested to hear anyone else experience with Mack.  Many cruiser in this area use Bacon's Sails in Annapolis they are OK.  I purchased a main for my last boat there was nice no complaints.

Having a car here provides some addition option to trim a sail.  A C30 has one is a bit antiquated being metal on metal slide it did hold the foot of the sail in place.  Has anyone looked at the C30 out haul car on a C34?  Yes I will be using Velcro to strap down the clew of the main but due to reefing blocks it then pretty much stuck there.  Being able to flatten or ease the main out is a nice option can improve main sail shape and boat speed.  I will be looking into other options thanks

Hello, I have a 88 C34 I just realized the boat does not have an outhaul car on the boom.   I will be going back to the boat this weekend to see if there is a track for a car or a car that would fit in the rope grove on the boom.  I had looked at this but am 6 months new to the boat so kind of looked and moved on.   All I have a cable with hook which comes out the end of the boom.   What do other late 80's C34 have for an outhaul car?   Sorry no pictures.  Seems there should be more there or is going to be.
