Elliot...congradulation on your new boat!!!  I've got the same boat as you and I have 150' of 5/16" chain and 100' of rode.  I like to have the rode as a cushion in the bottom of the anchor well  and the chain rest on it.  I also like to have an easy way out if in the event that the hook is stuck in the bottom and that I have to leave in a hurry (ie: dangerous situation).  I always tought that it would be easier to cut the rode VS the chain!!  Depending of where you mainly sail you might want more or less chain but I like the security of having that much.
Just to be sure I would buy some 8" or 10" of the one you think is right and wrap it around the gypsy to see the fit.  Or if you had the manual then it would be easier.  Check carefully for the fit because it doesn't take much to make domage if it's the wrong size.

For the other question..I'm not sure to understand.  Maybe someone elsa can answer or give us more info.

Guys I had a major problem last Thurday with my transmission.  I pulled out of our finger (in reverse) and when I was ready to move to forward I had no response.
I quickly dropped the ancor in the marina and was able to control the stern from hitting other boats.  With the help of our friends I was pulled into another slip.  Checked the cable and the oïl of the tranny and all was OK.  Then with a dinghy I was pushed back into my regular slip.

With my friend we took the tranny out...the input shaft was damaged and the damper plate was completely gone.  Tons of steel was in the bell housing.

We were bearly able to take the transmission out and when I do get my new damper plate I believe that the only way its going to go back in is by lifting the rear of the motor the clear the shaft/coupling.

Now the boat is 12yo with about 1300 hrs on the engine.  The boat is in the water about 4mo/yr so it's like 3yo!!!.

My damper plate has NO springs.  My engine is a universal/westebeke 35B.

As I can see it's seems to be a no so rare problem.  I'm replacing the damper plate only (280$Us).  I was told that the imput shaft is still usable but next Fall I'll remove again and get it replace.  Two pros that I trust believe that I'm still good for many years with it but none the less will change it in a couple of months.

I also got a new 6HP Tohatsu about a month ago.  I've experienced the same problem and did find a solution that work very good (at least ) for me.

When u start the engine cold..pull the choque all the way and pull.  It may take a minute or two to warm it up so this is the crucial time...play with the choke until it's warmed up.
If it dies on you...push the choque in an give it full trottle....and pull again...if it's flooded (or not) the fact that u have full trottle will dissipate the gas.

Here I'm assuming that you have an outside thank (if using the build in tank, that another story), vent open and fairly new gas.  If old dump it in you car.
Also, even if the manufacturer does say that it's ok to use regular gas...but they also say that that a higher octane gas is also ok..use super.

If you have to clean the jet...I've found that they do sell for welders a tool for cleaning the jets of the torches....it has a variety of rigid wires that will fit your jet.

Finally, I run dry my card only when I know that I won't be using it for a few days or more.

Good luck

Bob I've got a similar problem from day one.  I've had this boat from the dealer, new.  It's now 10yrs old.  I was never able to keep some antifreeze in the OverFlow bootle....but at the manifold level all is OK.  It's always full but the OB is always empty.  At first the dealer's explanation was air locks since it was new so it needed burping.  After 3 or 4 g of antifreeze (I kept on adding in the OB) I gave up.  The motor run good, no overheating, so it aint brooke so aint fixing it!!  I've checked under the motor, on the floor, in the bilge and no sign of it.  So this problem exist even when the boat is new...so your problem might be part of the same Mistery then me.  The only difference is that my level in the manifold is always topped..good luck in your research.

Brad, if you're using a jig saw, they sell blades with teeth that cuts as it goes in as oppose to comming out.  They sell these blades to to cut particule board / melamine.  It's always good to tape the desire opening over a masking tape...your marks are easier to follow (if you mark ON the tape) and also prevent as such as possible the chipping.
Good luck
